Medicine and wight loss supplements .?

Happy new year all

I haven't started taking my lexapro because I haven't felt like I have needed it . I may start taking it but may not . Anyways I was wondering if anyone had any experience with a weight Loss supplement such as a thermogeneic and antidepressants? I really need to lose weight and need a extra boost.

Great advice by Merrida.............always check with your Dr.before taking the magic OTC weight loss supplements.

You only results is an empty wallet.  I know, I have  tried many OTC and nothing worked like Weight Watchers.

I agree about the weight loss stuff I think a lot of it is crap but I just think psychologically it helps me . But I appreciate your insights and will definitely think twice .

I just really need some advice on whether to start this lexapro or not . Maybe I should try it and stop if it doesn't work ?? My doctor only gave me one perscripton for it and I would have to call in for it to be refilled.

The antidepressants I started taking are apparently used for weight loss. Everybody I come across who's taken it before seems to be ecstatic about it - never hungry, losing weight! Well, I'm never hungry, and I'm losing weight, too.

I feel horrible. Literally, the worst I've felt physically in years. I'm a good weight now, but I feel weak all the time, and instead of hunger I get nausea. I wish I'd started eating better before taking this medication, so I could maybe lose weight and not feel like I'm always about to pass out.

Just my personal experience. I hope you find a route that works for you. I know that the antidepressants don't give me a boost and the weight loss feels awful.

Bupropion SR, alternating between 200 and 300mg a day.

My personal opinion is: You won't know until your try the Lexapro. Many people have had very good results with it. But you have to give it time. Not everyone responds the same way to each medication, so for now, trust your doctor and trust a medication that is FDA approved and regulated.

If you find that you do not like it, you can discuss other options with your prescribing doctor. There are so many other alternatives if that isn't the right fit.

My concern with the OTC "weight loss pills" is that they are dangerous, even by themselves, and more so if mixed with anything. Remember the fatalities when kids were consuming large amounts of "energy drinks?" Well that's the same thing. It's a very dangerous game and all it takes is once to be one time too much for your heart.

There are many ways to boost energy and lose weight.

With A/D...there are many choices as well. If your doctor wants to start you on this, trust your doctor and give it a fair shot. Who knows....maybe if you can get your A/D under control, you will feel better and more in control of your life in general! That's a very good trade off.

PS: As for "addiction"....I'm playing Devil's Advocate here, okay, and that's all. IF you took those OTC pills and they worked, when you stopped taking them, the energy would go, the weight would return, you'd be, essentially, "addicted" to those pills.

You won't get addicted to A/D meds. They're prescribed by your doctor to help you.

I understand what you mean. School is tough enough without worrying about exhaustion.

You made a very good statement when you commented on how much time you've wasted worrying about your anxiety. I'd believe this is why your doctor prescribed the Lexapro for you. A/D's are not "magic pills" and they don't "fix" anything. What they do is give us a fighting chance by balance our brain chemicals.

Have you given any consideration to the anxiety being a reason you are feeling scared and tired,...or afraid of being scared and of being tired? Remember, there are many other A/D's out there, but you'll never know if this helps if you don't take it.

If it turns out to work well for you, how will you feel, looking back at how much time you potentially spent worrying and being anxious about if this will work, and the time wasted choosing to do nothing instead of giving this a shot?

It took me a few shots at a few different meds to find the right one. But I never would have known if I didn't try.

If you can get your A/D under better control, it's also very possible you'll have more energy because you're not spending so much time focusing on the anxiety.

If you're worried about side effects, those OTC "weight pills" are filled with dangerous, potentially lethal side effects. With the Lexapro, you've got your doctor prescribing a medication that has FDA approval, it's monitored, it's approved. If you find they're not the right meds for you, after giving them a very fair trial, discuss it with your doctor to see what other options are. There are always other options.

My personal, and non-medical opinion,....and that opinion of someone who is currently on A/D meds,....I would have more regret in my life if I didn't trust my doctor and at least give the meds a fair shake,.... that anxiety is more tolerable than holding on to a Rx and not filling and burning up my energy fearing "what if" and "what if" ....over and over.

If you think Lexapro has side effects, (and most medications do), please understand that under the supervision of your doctor, they can be managed.

Those OTC pills you're talking about are fraught with side effects, and very dangerous ones. Just because you don't need a Rx, please do not think that makes them "safe." It does not.

This is a subject near and dear to my heart, as I'm sure you can tell. I'm passionate about this topic.
