Cortisol, a stress hormone is often to blame for a.m. anxiety. Without it, we would not be able to get up and going in the mornings, after being inactive for 6-8 hours...
...however, if we produce too much of it, or have a sensitivity to the Cortisol, our anxiety peaks upon waking.
Just knowing that there was an explanation for my morning A/P spikes helped me to accept and deal with it.
I relied heavily on my coping skills such as deep breathing, progressive muscle relaxation and positive mantras.
As my general anxiety levels dropped, so did my morning anxiety...so keep working on your goals!
Hoping that this brings you a bit of comfort, and that you can start to get calm sleeping and waking patterns.
