antidepressant question

I have also heard mixed opinions on this subject.

From what I have heard, drinking can cause issues for two reasons:

For one, it can render your Rx ineffective to some degree. (the more alcohol consumed, the worse this effect)

Another reason to be very careful would be that SSRI meds can increase the effects of alcohol in your system...

...thus it makes imbibing a double whammy.

So I think that most doctors recommend not drinking at all.

However, I have heard that some people choose to go ahead, but stop at just one glass of wine, beer, or toast of champagne.

Call your doctor or pharmacist for the final word on this to be on the safe side.:)

I told him no mater what I order that's normally made with bourbon give me Canada Dry ginger ail over Ice,

If the drink was a vodka base, it was diet 7up, kept me alive, Peace

I wish I had something to contribute to this thread, but I do not drink alcohol (outside of the occasional vanilla extract used in baking).

To be "sociable" I would probably walking around with an ice glass filled with ginger ale or something and pretty red straw sticking out. Maybe even stick a few cherries in it.

So I don't encounter this situation because I don't drink, but also if I did drink, I think I recall (on virtually all the medication pamphlets given to me as we were working our way through the list to find what worked for me), it stated not to drink, it can affect the chemical makeup of the medication/s you use.

Just my $0.02. Whatever you decide to do, please be careful. Perhaps call your doctor and pharmacy and explain the situation and see what they have to say? Now there's a thought.
