Feels worse in the morning

No matter what, I feel the most anxious in the morning. The past two nights I have slept well and have even been able to get back to sleep quickly when I do wake. But then once I am awake, I feel like my chest is trembling, my heart is racing, my arms are tingling, my muscles are tense. Yesterday we ran some errands and stopped at a store and I was having a really hard time up until we left. I never needed to take a Xanax. My husband was great and trying to help me. Then by late afternoon I started to calm and the evening was fine. Now it's started all over again since I woke up. Does anyone else experience this?

Also, I'm super nervous about tomorrow morning. It's going to be crazy cold here and I have to drop my kid off at a neighbors so he can go to school with them and then I have to get to a doctors appointment that's kinda far and requires me to drive to the train and take a train then a cab. I really need to see this doctor. But the thought of the whole morning really scares me.

Hi ME.,

Morning is rough time for a lot of us with anxiety. It could be that we either produce too much, or are extra sensistive to the effects of Cortisol.

Cortisol is the stress hormone responsible for getting us up and moving again after prolonged periods of sleel. Without it, we would never rise and shine...unfortuntely, for an anxiety sufferer it is more like rise and panic!

Just knowing that there was a reason for my morning jitters helped me to deal with them and overcome the issue.

Practice your stress relieving skills first thing. Exercise can also help you burn off some of the anxiousness.

Anticipate good things tomorrow. Get up with plenty of time, so you are not rushed. Breathe deep, and know that you can get through it. We will go with you in spirit, so know that you are being thought of and supported.

I'm going to have to reschedule due to school being cancelled. It makes me sad because as much as the stress of the morning was giving me additional anxiety, I really, really need to see this doctor and have been looking forward to this visit. Maybe it's for the best since the conditions were not ideal and I'm not really in the right frame of mind. Maybe I can try to get in some sort of exercise in the morning.

I like the thought of everyone here going with me in spirit. This place has been a saving grace for me.

You got a reprieve..........look at the sunny side.  You will be  in your cozy home tucked under fluffy down quilts watching movies with your kids and chomping on popcorn so no reason to get anxious.

It is a habit we have built here to come along with our members in spirit when they are facing tough appointments; think of us as angels on your shoulder and we are all whispering in your ear - "You will be OK" 

When I am so anxious that my legs are shaking and I don't think I can walk down the step to the garage, I am at my worst yet after the appointment I am literally bouncing on my toes as I made it through the appointment with out lightening striking me down.  I may have tears on my cheeks but I am usually smiling as I accomplished a goal just for me.

I had the same problem when my panic attacks began and it was horrifying to jump out of bed for no reason at all with a racing heart beat. Some mornings I would wake up crying until one night I accidently ate a bowl of cereal before I went to sleep, and the next morning I woke up thinking to myself why am I calm? what did I do to wake up calm? Am I all better now(which I found out I wasn't due to the panic attack I had later in the day)? I am not sure how it helped but as a mom you know cereal helps newborns sleep through the night. Why wouldn't it help a mom sleep through the night? Sounds weird but it accidently worked for me. I had to actually think it through and I then realized what I did.

That brings up a good point!! Low blood sugar can account for anxiety, or similar symptoms to anxiety.

Getting a snack before bed, or at least eating soon after getting up...and never skipping breakfast should help to ease the a.m. jitters.

Hi I went to the doctor and he told me I have anxiety. My symptoms are shaking trembling inside. My arms sometimes tingle and hands. Some times my hands hurt. My thighs to my feet burn and tingle. I have no appetite and sometimes its hard to swallow.I can't sleep. I am all ways nervous. Its worse in the morning. Does anybody have these symptoms? Misty.

Dear Misty and Motherearth3 - Join the club. I don't have hurting body parts but mornings are the most anxious times and sometimes at night when things calm down. I am having a difficult morning (yes, I ate!) and am at work in front of my computer feeling like crying. I will work at bringing this down. Had a bad night with many bad dreams so I shouldn't be to surprised. Why is it that we have to deal with this stuff?! I'm thinking of going home and trying to get some sleep without bad dreams.

Breathing helps and so does getting busy - also at night having sex with my hubby helps! Crazy huh?!

I know we're told not to eat before bed, and that definitely helps a lot. However, I'll sometimes eat something very, very small, like half of a piece of fruit or 2 or 3 peanut butter crackers.... and oftentimes that helps me to wake up without quite as much of "the jitters."

But yes, mornings are absolutely the worst! Especially if I get woken by a jolt or sudden, loud noise!
