So I did it again I went on google and now I'm afraid I have pericarditis or myocarditis from this virus that I have! I started to get chest pains tonight that were pretty sharp in my upper chest and I had a full blown panic attack. I didn't go to the er we are pretty much in blizzard conditions where I live so I've decided to go in the morning. I'm hoping that this pain is just my chest from the cough I've had and from blowing my nose all day long. I'm terrified I'm going to die from sudden cardiac arrest! Ugh this sucks! Thanks for letting me vent!

I use to hurt like this and I found an old heating pad, wow now I can't hardly go to sleep without it. I must
tell you that my cardiologist told me that if its a sharp pain, or if you can touch where it hurts it's not your
heart.
That's what it sounds like to me, you blow to hard!

I am sure that it is just from your chest congestion and coughing. I am sure you will be feeling better by tomorrow.

Anxiety can make us think the worst...but that is its nature. You can combat it with positive thinking and relaxation exercises.

We're also having blizzard conditions, and I'm coming off a 2-week spree of coughing up a storm.

Absolutely, aggressively coughing and altering your posture to keep blowing your nose, holding onto your body, trying to get comfortable,...all can contribute to making your chest and ribs quite sore indeed! I can attest to that, as that happens to be what I'm going through at this moment.

Big deep breaths are so important to help stretch your rib cage and at least try to utilize as much lung capacity as you can.

Thank you everyone! I went to the er this morning my pulse was 125 and the nurse looked at me like I had 3 heads! They did a chest X-ray and an EKG both came back normal. I have influenza A (I got the flu shot in October) so it helped with my symptoms a little bit but I'm still sick! So the heart is good but the chest pains were still scary to me. Being a nurse doesn't help because I have seen every worse case scenario and I always think I have it!

Hi i have been told that if you can touch the pain, or replicate the pain by puhing its not heart related. I have had 6 EKG, stress echo test, all kinds of blood work, holter monitor, Chest CT scan, X rays all from chest pain I just posted beause i am in the same boat I think I am going to have cardiac arrest :( I felt like my heart stopped then sped up super fast got a littlelight headed I too am in a blizzard, upstate NY. Try to think about something else, I know its easier said than done.... trust me on that but it cant hurt.

Melz,

I am sorry to hear that you have the flu...but most likely, like you said, it should be easier to recover since you did get the shot.

Take it easy, fluids, good nutrition and all of that...you know, you are a nurse.:)

Glad that you went in and got the answers that you needed. With that pulse rate, it sounds like your poor system was in super worry mode. (plus being ill can also raise HR and BP) I hope that you are able to feel more at peace now.

Rest and recover.
