My One Year Anxiety Journey

Hi! I'm joshua and I'm addicted to anxiety.....I haven't had an anxiety attack in 8 months.

So, it's been just about a year since I was diagnosed with panic and probable generalized anxiety. I think I'm clean, I've recovered from my addiction to anxiety and worry and I'm well. It's tempting to go back to a place of anxiety and some days are better than others. I'll likely always be an addict though I live free and mindful and haven't had an attack in awhile.

What have I learned?

Well...take it easy! Really! Everybody told me that and it sounded like such crap but it is true. Your body and mind are connected and when one suffers the other does too.

Make time for your mental health! My daily ritual usually includes some sort of meditation practice.

Invest in private time, make sure you get some "me time". For me, I disappear at lunch most work days and I go work out. It's my secret place and time in the middle of the day and my boss doesn't know and I'm not telling!

It's OK to be selfish! sometimes a no can be more helpful than saying yes all the time. I know my limits and protect them.

It's Ok to get frickin angry and express it! Most people do! Just don't keep it bottled up, that leads to an inner explosion. Why let yourself suffer when somebody else we'll deserves an ass kicking?

Stand up for yourself - let people know you're a person with limitations. Most people will respect well thought out boundaries.

Help yourself! Every step you take to get your life back is a step forward.

You will make backwards steps and life will crash around you. That's normal. Just pick yourself up again and keep moving.

Anxiety is such an individualized thing, I'll never get you completely and you'll never get me totally. But I find trying to connect helps.

And...do do do when you get anxious, get busy. Busy yourself right through the panic, and it will go away. When it's quiet again take time for focused relaxation.
