Hey there,
I promise you that you will make it, anxiety can honestly make you feel like your brain is shutting down and that you are going to end up in a mental institution but that is not going to happen okay. Paxil can take a little bit to get in your system so you just need to be around people as much as possible and try to keep positive(I know how hard this is trust me)but once it starts working, it can be a real help will make you feel a lot more normal again. I would recommend trying some mindfullness which is basically like meditation which can help you focus on things other than your thoughts but you WILL get through this.
Anytime you need support then just talk to people or post on here or contact me direct. I thought there was no going back and I thought I was going to lose it but this is what anxiety can do to people and you will beat it because you just have to remind yourself that you are not going mad and you have already taken the first step by going to doctors so you are on your way to recovery now :)

Hi
Desperately Hopeful
and welcome!
Starts ups can be rough. Hang in there as these effects should fade out over time, and your Rx comes to a theraputic level.
Post with us anytime for support...and consider making a new thread of introduction for yourself at any time. This way more members can respond and welcome you.:)

Yesterday was absolute torture! I felt like I was hanging on the side of a bridge by my fingernails! I have so much anxiety and depression. My relationship with my husband is in shambles, I am menopausal and I am a Christian. I have been going to counseling with my husband and counseling for myself both of which is at the church. I have been so upset with my counselor because basically she throws out the script
ure to not be anxious in anything. So I have been questioning my faith.
I Believe that script
ure, but I also believe in anxiety and depression. Lord, please help us all!

desperately hopeful , I am sorry to hear about your recently increased anxiety. Is there a known trigger that you can identify? Or is it all center around your marriage? For me I may have one big stressor and lots of little ones that just keep adding to my anxiety. It concerns me that your counselor is not meeting your needs so may I suggest you seek independent counseling through your physician. Also wondering when was the last time you had a medical screening exam with your Dr.? I, also, believe in my faith but have had friends tell me my anxiety and depression is the devil trying to take over my mind as God would never allow me to feel so sad and so it goes. I gently change the subject, however, that is hard to do when your counselor is the one preaching. Questioning your faith is something everyone experiences; remember that doubt is normal. Everyone has it from time to time. I suspect deep down you are very strong however at this point in time you are feeling very fragile. Keep talking with us and let us help you through this difficult time in your life. We have lots of good info in our resources on the first page of this forum for self-help however, if just feels to me like you would do well with one on one therapy with a person you can establish a trust relationship with. Thinking of you, Kitt

DH.,
There is a line that needs to be recognized between faith and really dealing with/treating a mental illness issue.
Would your counselor tell a diabetic to just 'have faith' and 'not be anxious in anything'? Of course not! Why then do a lot of (well meaning) religious leaders give this advice for A/D?
Our much loved former pastor (he has since been called to another church) really got this! His mother suffered bi-polar disorder, so he really understood what it was to struggle with anxiety and depression.
He would be the first person to counsel you to seek professional help, while keeping faith that God can and does heal in many ways...
...because one of those ways can be through medicine and/or therapy!!
I hope that your faith is not too shaken by the misguided ideas of one lay counselor...I am sure the intent was good...just missing the mark.
I second Kitt's advice to seek a therapy referral through your doctor. A licensed therapist is going to be able to teach you the tools to better manage the anxiety issues that are challening you.
Keep posting with us!

Aw thank you for asking. I genuinely appreciate your concern. It has been a bad day. I am so tired of feeling like this. I take something for the anxiety and it doesn't help! My chest feels so tight. I haven't eaten in three days. Losing weight. I am terrified!

I know how you feel, Sean; I'm going through another bout of severe anxiety and depression right now that is making my life very difficult, and I wish I had an answer to this problem as much as you do. All I know to do is to take things moment by moment (day by day is too long of a stretch, lol), and try to reflect a lot about
why I'm feeling the way that I'm feeling in hopes of learning how to better cope. Just know that you are not alone. Take care, buddy.

Aw I'm so sorry you are feeling rough still. I promise you it is going to get better, what are you taking to try relieve the anxiety may I ask?
Have you tried mindfulness as doing that can give your mind a very welcome break from worrying which is actually keeping your anxiety alive longer?

Hi Sean. Last night was a particularly low night for me, but today is a little bit better. Are you feeling any better? What have you found that helps you get through the tough times?

Hi DC123,
I feel alot better for the past 5 days or so which I am really grateful for. I found looking on the net finding other people that are in the same situation and hearing their stories helped as then I knew it would pass and I was going to be okay so they provided some comfort. I tried mindfullness as well and that can be really good as it helps you to concentrate on other things.
Are you taking medication?

Last couple of days I have not felt great, I can feel some pressure on my head and felt a bit spaced out again so I went doctors this morning and he thinks it may be a viral infection and sent me for a blood test. I had to come into work as I have had so much time off but my head is pounding and I feel spaced out......not good :(

SBS,
Sorry to hear you are not feeling well.:(
Something have been going around for sure. I have heard of a lot of people coming down with stuff.
I hope that you can start to rest and recover soon!! Illness can be an extra anxiety trigger...so use those coping skills right now!
Sending thoughts for wellness.

Thank you Scaredy Cat,
Its really hard now as I was making so much progress and felt back to normal pretty much but now I feel like I have been knocked back again and I really hope I dont have to go through it all over again as I am not sure I could cope :(

No...setbacks happen to everyone, for various reasons.
You have not lost ground...and you don't have to start back at square one!
Just give yourself time to recover from your illness, and pick up where you left off. :)

I just thought I was over the worst, last two times I went through this years ago, it lasted about
a week or two and then I was back to normal but this is carrying on longer and its grinding me down a bit.
It still makes me feel like I am going to lose touch with reality :(
Have you heard anything from the other couple of people that was commenting on this thread? I hope they are okay.

Yes, anxiety can wear you down for sure. Try to counter act it with decompression skills, exercise and destractions that you enjoy.
Try not to put a time table to your current situation, or expectations on how long it will last...but rather just focus on the things you are able to do to feel better.:)
I haven't seen the others around in a bit...but I am sure they are fine. People tend to come and go...sometimes just reading, and not responding for awhile. Maybe they will now that you've asked about
them.:)
Keep up the good work...it is going to get better!

The hardest thing is the whole spaced out in the head part because it makes it very hard to concentrate on anything I like and makes me feel like I am a bit out of it. I did some mindfullness earlier and the doctor gave me some sleeping tablets today so I hope I will be able to sleep better tonight.
