I am 37 with a hole in my heart, 2 thoracic aortic aneurysms at the root and just recently had an ablation for A-Fib. The anxiety is horrible I know, and trying to live with these pounding skipping heart beats is hard. Since the ablation I have not had any A-Fib episodes, but I have thousands of PVCs a day, sometimes the pause and pound you refer to will happen every 2-3 regular beats and last for hours on end for days. I loose my breath and get startled too every time and my heart rate picks up over 100 and this just makes them worse. Anxiety definately makes them worse, I have tried Xanax when this happens and it has helped and tells me the anxiety is partly to blame for making them worse and more frequent. So instead of taking the Xanax, I tell myself its OK and just try to ignore them. I have been to several doctors and they all say the PVCs will be bothersome, but just don't let them bother me and try not to be so intune to every beat my heart makes. As long as I'm not going into A-Fib, your OK, and my doctor's have taken me off the blood thinners even thought I have thousands of PVCs a day... I still jog, bike, and walk and use light weights to exercise and this helps with the anxiety more than anything.....
