Are there any places that will help with getting off a benzo?

I want to get off Klonopin.  I take .5mg twice daily for about a year for personal issues and a death in the family.  I believe my Dr. will just tell me stop, but I am scared of the repurcussions.  Are there any facilities that'll help me titrate off it even though I am out of state?  To include providing the 'scripts for the titration.

As a side note: There were a few times within the last year that I stopped for over a week, so maybe I can titrate myself.  However, I'am not sure what would happen now after reading all the horror stories, I don't want any part of that.

Have you actually made an appointment with your doctor to sit down and discuss this?

Please don't let horror stories frighten you from making a change. There are always scary stories and there are always unexpected surprises.

Meet your doc with a positive attitude, and ask. He/she should be able to help you titrate down.

Writing prescriptions only come with seeing the Dr. in person. May I suggest you read this and perhaps discuss this method with your Dr.

I was on 4 mg of Ativan when we used this method to wean me from this drug.

Thank you! I saw that earlier today... Can you tell me what "long term" use would be? 6 months? Over a year?

Well, heard back from my Dr. He, well his nurse, actually called me.  He gave me a 10-day titration. Basically, cut everything in half every 5 days. Wish me luck! I hope to God I am one of those unexpected surprises.

Hi Cheri... Thanks! Are you doing it yourself or have a schedule from your doc? Whats the time frame?

Today was a little rough as I had my 1st 1/2 dose at 10am and could start feeling the angst around 5-6pm. Tried to tough it out but I was starting to unravel. Took the 2nd 1/2 dose around 7:30 and it stabilized me pretty good. Added some chamomile tea and I think that helped to.

Day 1 is almost complete, but I hear the withdrawals really dont start for another few days. Ugh!

Day#2 - Started off pretty good, albeit a little tired. Was a little forgetful this morning, which isn't normal for me. Took my 1st dose around 9am. It's almost 2pm now and I can definitely tell I am not myself. A little jumpy and anxious. Actually looking forward to my 2nd dose which I'll take around 6-7pm.

This is a very interesting thread...my sister is trying to wean off klonopin and is having a hard time of it. I hope your wean will go better than hers. Please keep us posted as you go along. I am wishing an easy time of it for you!

Day#2 continued... I am operational, but this sucks. Definitely had to take my 2nd dose early. Have some chamomile brewing right now and I hope that takes some of the edge off. If this gets any worse, I am going to have to go back to full dose and taper more gradually. But, I keep thinking of "Invictus" which is a poem with the final verse of: I am the master of my fate: I am the captain of my soul.

Day#3 - Pretty much a repeat of Day#2 although I walked a lot today to try and get my mind off of things. Sort of worked. Called my doc again to see if we could slow the taper, but never heard back.

I am coming off .75mg clonazepam

they advise a cross over to Valium which seems to be easier to taper from. Please be advised that you need to go VERY slow and 10% cuts from total are the highest cut you should make at any time.

you also need to hold a couple weeks between each cut.

I used Dr Pearts method of crossing over to Valium but tweaked it a little, took me 16 days to get off the kpin and am now on the equivalent of valium
.75mgs Kpin = 15mg Valium
