Stranger used my iPhone. Very anxious now...

I was sitting in my car in a crowded and busy parking lot in daylight with my window open. A car pulled up in the space next to me. A shady-looking man came out of the car and clumsily stuttered about using my cell phone to check Facebook for an emergency (his friend was suicidal apparently).

Unfortunately I am a very passive person and let him use my phone. At first he checked his Facebook and tried dialing a phone number he got in a Facebook message only to find that it was disconnected. I thought he would be done after that but he continued to use my phone. It looked like he was typing things or texting and every few seconds he would comment about auto-correct or something similar. It just sounded and looked fishy.

I got my phone back and everything appears normal and fine but I'm wondering if he could have done anything to my phone or gotten any information or what-have-you from it. Can anyone enlighten me?

I sure wish I had some answers for you!

As it is, I am probably one of the most UN-savvy, UN-tech-type persons out there in this high-tech world today! I just recently got an iPhone and can't figure out how to get it to ring and make sounds on alerts, even though I've set the volume and settings!

So,....yeah, not so much in the help department. I hope someone comes along with news that is more enlightening.

I'm an analog person living in a digital age....

PS: Randomly thinking out loud, but he surely could have checked your phone# as that is accessible, and perhaps your contact list? Not to freak you out, just yammering about the few things that come to mind. :(

He could have gotten your number, if your logged in automatically to fb he would have had to log you off and relogin with his name and then log back off or when you opened fb you would have been logged in on his fb? You should be able to go to last numbers dialed to see what number he called, look at your text and see if he text anyone, and if you were still logged in fb after he said he checked his he lied! He couldn't have logged in, out, and you back in without your login information.

Hi WW.,

I am sorry that this happened to you. In a more perfect world...we should be able to help out our fellow man/woman, but today, sadly, it is just not a great idea to lend someone your phone.:(

I would go to/contact your network provider store and explain the situation. They can do a check to see what apps/information was acccessed yesterday. They may also be able to put a freeze on any purchases/added usage for the time being.

Again, sorry that this happened...be pro-active and talk to your provider so that you can feel secure about the situation.;)

Ooh. I didn't even think about purchases! Yikes. Could that be done, though, w/o cc info etc.?

Absolutely Merrida! When I'm on eBay or Amazon and move to checkout my last method of payment or PayPal info is already there! He would have had to change delivery address? I use pizza hut mobile so often when I open the icon on my screen it asks if I wish to order the this, this and this, (what I always get) and if you check yes it asks if I want to change delivery address, then proceeds to check out and asks if I'm paying with card ending in xxxx? Not a good way to do things and obviously not safe if others have access to my phone but convenient for me and I have "lookout app that allows me to locate my phone, or change password by remote and wipe all programs and reset to default by remote should the need arise!

I am sorry to hear about your troubles! My only advice if you'd call it that is if any shady number calls you that you are always able to block it. Now I'm not sure if you had anything on there worth looking at besides phone numbers but I'd keep your phone to yourself next time unless a trusted person is using it. Other than that if follow SCs advice. Can't be too careful
