Tired of being tired, anxious, weak, shaky, you name it!

I just posted yesterday on a similar subject but here I am again whining about all these anxiety symptoms I've had on and off for many years. I have to admit though, that spending time on this site makes me more comfortable and at ease, as I see that so many others have similar symptoms yet they aren't dying of cancer like I always think I am. What a terrible waste of time worrying about terminal illnesses.....if i could muster the courage to go to the doc and have a complete physical it probably would alleviate alot of this anxiety too, but the problem is I have an absolutely paralyzing fear of going to the doc....I'm afraid I'll have a stroke right there in the office! The last time I went to the doctor (7 years ago) I was so nervous my BP was 230/80...he put me on a beta-blocker and wanted to next do blood and thyroid tests. Do you think I ever went back...hell no...I hate being such a coward when there are so many courageous souls out there who deal with serious illness every day but I seem to be trapped by fear. Lately there have been alot of family and friend issues and at 67 I don't deal with them as easily as I used to. So I get shaky and weak and tired and feeling completely drained...so all I want to do in the afternoon is take a nap....and then I feel MORE anxious when I wake up. As a matter of fact I always feel super anxious when I wake up....my therapist suggested it may be excess Cortisol but whatever it is, it stinks. Guess I'm just venting here but I'll admit I feel better when I do...for a few minutes anyway until Mr. Anxiety rears its ugly head again. And I don't just feel sorry for myself...I feel sorry for all of us who suffer with this malady. Nobody really understands unless they have gone through it. I especially feel for the young people who post who are just beginning with anxiety (I started at 18). All I can say to them is to fight it every day...you'll have periods of days, months or even years when you feel fine but it may or may not come back again. AFter awhile though, you'll be better prepared to cope with it. Thanks for listening.

I'm so afraid of going to the doctor also. It's the, "what if's".

If you read my posts you'll see that I feel exactly the same way. I just opened a new topic regarding anxiety and doctor's visits. I once had an anxiety attack in the office. That was fun! But like Merrida indicated, that's the perfect place to have it. If I didn't have to get meds, I would never go to the doctor. I'm always afraid that this time they'll find something wrong with me. Just like deborahscinder wrote, it's the "what ifs". They'll get to us every time! I'm sure you're fine. It's just your anxiety taking over. It doesn't make it any easier to deal with knowing it's just anxiety, but at least there's an explanation for it that isn't related to something fatal!

You are not alone my friend. I only recently(5 Months ago) became overwhelmed with General Anxiety Disorder and have found myself in the Doctors office at LEAST once a month since then. When I am in the waiting room my blood pressure rises, I start sweating profusely and when I finally am called back have a hard time articulating myself as my neck locks up when I make eye contact with the nurse. I, as others have mentioned as well, always take comfort in the fact that if something WERE going to happen, it would be a lot better to happen there than at home or at work. I am still struggling but I am determined to beat this and I hope one day you can as well! In the mean time take comfort from the fact that you are not alone!

Well I guess it's comforting to hear that there are alot of others out there who share the same fear I do....I can't explain to most people how debilitating it is for me to even contemplate going to a doctor. I think it all stems from being diagnosed with Rheumatic Fever when I was seven and I can still remember the look on my mothers face when he told her...I was in hospital for two weeks and couldn't run outside or over-exert myself for a year. Ever since those days I have been not only terrified to go to a doctor but even more fearful that if I do, I'll obviously be diagnosed with some life threatening disease. What a way to live!!!! Yet even though I intellectually understand the reason, it doesn't help with the fear. Ironically I have been very healthy all these 60 years since, but now I'm convinced (because of my age I suppose) that something serious is going on and it's not just anxiety anymore. I do need to have a Lyme Disease test because I had an imbedded tick over a month ago and even though there has never been a rash, my muscles all ache and I'm fatigued every day. Yet these can also be anxiety symptoms which I've had before so who knows....I guess I can handle the doctor just doing a blood test and, to me, a diagnosis of Lyme Disease would be alot better than all the diseases I'm sure I have!!!
