Unconscious Jaw clinching.

Saturday morning I woke up with incredible pain in my face. This is not the first time this has happened, but it was the worst. I still have lingering pain. :/

More often then not the clinching occurs on the left side of my face, which has resulted in slight swelling. For a few weeks I had burning/stinging sensations in/around the left check bone, is that a normal TMJ symptom? I do get acne in that general area. Or could it be infectious arthritis? O_O

I did have my mouth x rayed recently at the dentist, but they were not looking for that.

Also is there any known cures? This is slowly driving me mad. :(

Update- As of recently I placed a frozen bag of chick peas over the swollen flesh. Majority of my cheek didn't seem to mind except for the bone/flesh under the left side, of my left eye. Now the dreaded burning/stinging is occurring. Is that a really bad sign?

I have considered, they are just so expensive.

You may also consider a visit to the dentist.

I clench my teeth and grind them as well. Just sitting "relaxed," my jaw is clenched, and I have to focus and concentrate to *not* do it, and just relax.

You could have a maligned bite, especially if you're grinding.

I've seen night guards at the pharmacy pretty inexpensive.

It's worth it to save your teeth and your jaw!

But as I mentioned, you could consider seeing your dentist (mine helped a whole lot w/ this matter!) :)
