So as you guys probably know I'm heading back to work tonight. It's just a five hour shift but it's my first time back in almost two months. I spent the entire day laying in bed listening to anxiety coach podcasts and falling asleep. I guess it was my way of not feeling the anxious feelings as much.
So now it's time to get showered and dressed hair and makeup and the whole nine yards and I'm so anxious. I'm wondering if I dare take a xanax and if I do should I take it now or right before I go to work? It tends to make me sleepy (only sometimes though which I find strange) so I worry about
taking it at work. I don't want it to impair my ability to think and do my job. Of course I also don't want the anxiety to do that either.
Should I just try my best to handle it on my own at this point and see how I feel? My prescript
ion says I can only take it every six hours so I feel like taking it now would be a waste since I don't start work till five o'clock. Then I'm afraid that if I don't my anxiety will just keep building and I'll wish I would've just taken it.
I think for now I'm going to just go get ready and see how it goes. I am SO hoping that once I get there and get going I will feel much better. I think it's just the anticipation and the fear of the fear that has me feeling this way. I so wish I worked in an office or something that wasn't with the public though. The fact that I work with people who tend to be irate doesn't help either but I'll manage.
Advice guys? I'm trying to stay in the moment but I'm shaking and just so nervous. Where did all those great feelings from a few days ago go to?

First, those great feelings will be right back once you get past this "hump" of going back to work and have a successful shift!! It will be successful!!
I've never taken xanax, but I guess I would wait, see how things go and save it for later if I needed it.
You're going to do great. This is going to be so good for you!! Let us know how your night goes!
Bug hugs!!

Ahhhh, to take the xanax or not. Asking myself that same question right now:) Going to be going to parent teacher conferences in about
an hour and wondering if i should take one before or wait and see. Like you, I have had an off week. If I was feeling how I was a week ago, I probably wouldn't even be contemplating it!! But I agree with Miss, I would probably wait until you think you may need it at work. Hopefully you won't. If you are feeling too anxious after you get there, maybe just take half. That might aleviate some of the nervousness and not make you tired. Good luck!! Looking forward to seeing your post tonight.

Good to see your going back to work! Once you get over the initial anxiety, I'm sure you'll do great๐
I'm going to say the same as the others and say wait to take it! You can take it any time, you choose when to take it...don't let your anxiety decide.
Have an awesome time....you're going to do well ๐

I would say wait to take it because you may find you don't even need it. You probably feel worse now as you anticipate what may be, but I bet it goes much better than you expect!

I would wait. You can always take it later.
Prayers for a successful shift! Hopefully your mind will be too busy working to panic. ;-)

I would have taken it before but Xanax doesn't make me feel goofy or weird. It just takes the edge off of my anxiety. Whatever you did, I assume you made it to work and I cannot wait to hear back.
I am proud of you. You and Cornell going back to work tonight is inspiring. I'm kind of envious. I have a fear of starting a new job with new faces and would love to be going back to a job where ppl know me, and getting back into a routine.
I'm sending you the very best girl!

Billy, how did it go, and what did you decide to do?
I take Xanax, and my personal choice would have been to wait. Xanax, of the benzos out there, has a pretty quick onset and leaves the system pretty quickly as well. Who knows,...maybe you'd have been dandy w/o taking the meds.
Something else I learned over the years was many times, just having them on my person,....just knowing I *can* if I need to,....well, sometimes, oddly, that's enough, and I actually don't end up taking them. Sometimes, it's just the anticipatory anxiety that can spiral everything out of control.
But hey, that's just me. I think we experiment until we find what works best for us! :)
