I live in NY and flew there out of sheer desperation. Anxiety was ruining my life, and I refused to take medication. I just felt strongly that I needed a different type of treatment. I felt very hurt and angry every time a doctor or family member recommended medication to me; it made me feel like no one really cared or wanted me to get better.....
I am so glad that I followed my own inner voice, and listened to no one. I found the treatment that I needed, on my own. I believe that anxiety was my "sacred wound," the 'curse' that ended up leading me to grow spiritually....... Anxiety and panic attacks were the worst thing that ever happened to me, the most difficult, but it led me down an incredible, beautiful path of healing and spiritual evolution.....
The Chopra Center quickly diagnoses your imbalance. Anxiety is indicative of Vata imbalance. The treatment of Vata imbalance is simple and clear-cut.
While at the Chopra Center, they recommnded certain herbal formulations, for Vata imbalance, but I got better even without taking them. They taught us the dietary guidelines for Vata imbalance, certain yoga asanas which lower Vata, certain types of music that lowers Vata, certain specific oils for the skin, certain herbal teas, even certain colors that reduce Vata. There are so many things. We learned to meditate, and were given mantras. We did yoga every day. We were taught to physically release negative emotions that are pent up, literally physically stuck, in the body. We took classes in Ayurvedic philosophy. We got massage, shirodhara, and got colon cleanses, to get rid of toxins out of digestive system. I met privately with Dr. Simon, and we talked about the stresses and painful things that had happened in my life. He told me a panic attack is like a pot boiling over.
After the Chopra Center, I went to hear an Ayurvedic healer from India speak, Master Balanchandran Nair, just to learn more about Ayurveda. He picked me out of the crowded audience, and literally read my mind, on the spot. Throughout his talk, he was messing with me, like joking, showing me that he could read my thoughts, and he knew what sensations I had physically at any given moment, and he told me random things about myself that there was no way in hell anyone could ever know. After his talk, I watched patients come to him, and drop to their knees and bow their heads at his feet in gratitude...... The whole thing was really crazy, shocking to experience..... I really loved it..... Years later, I still keep in touch w him, and it is a dream of mine to visit his ashram in India.
Another time, I went to another Vaidya from India - who correctly diagnosed my digestive problem WITHOUT A SINGLE WORD between us - merely by running his hand in front of my body, and feeling something energetically! I have had some amazing experiences with Ayurveda, that's for sure.....
Anyway, I honestly think you can drastically reduce your anxiety just by educating yourself on Ayurveda, if u can't make it to the Chopra Center..... Def get David's book, Vital Energy, and Deepak's book, Perfect Health, is a great intro, too, but I like Vital Energy better. Keep me posted, please... I'd love to hear if u try any of this....! :)
