This sounds so weird. I have been more anxious this last 7 days or so, yet I feel like I'm sitting on the edge of having a (good) breakthrough. I just feel like there is something in my way. This bout with anxiety is my third over ten years and by far the longest and toughest. I am waiting patiently (most of the time) for it to go away. I just switched therapist because mine was retiring, and the new one is going in a totally different direction. Which I'm totally cool with. We are getting into loving myself and other things that I have not really looked at in myself.

I have also noticed my symptoms shifting a little. I've always been a chronic over breather, and still am. But now I am burping constantly (attractive, I know), but it is taking a little pressure off always worrying about my breathing. During my last anxious bout five years ago, when my anxiety started to shift was when I started to really feel better. So I'm hopeful this is a good thing.

I'm just confused. In my mind I feel like I'm on the cusp of really getting better, but my body is wired and even more anxious than normal. I've been in this bout for almost six months now. Is it possible that my body can't tell the difference between good excitement and bad excitement? Like my adrenaline has been working overtime for so long that I am automatically anxious, even if I'm excited? Does this sound totally out there?

Most of the time if I get excited for anything good my anxiety will act up. I don't know why our bodies react so differently. I'm glad you like your new therapist. Good ones are hard to find.
I hope your good breakthrough comes soon!! Keep happy you seem to be doing really good.

That is completely possible and exactly what I do. Your body doesn't know the difference. My therapist has told me countless times that this is what happens to me! Even if I'm super excited and happy, I can have a panic attack. Working on breathing can really help. Being aware of this can really help.

Oh how I pray your breakthrough is around the corner. I'm in a similar boat as you except mine started 8 months ago. My last bout was 6 yrs ago. This is my 3rd bout since 1993. mad rolleyes eyes skull shocked shakehead Longest bout everrrrrrr & I'm ready to cross that finish line with you!!!

It makes total sense the body can get confused and I think that's where the dang time & waiting plays a key role bc it takes time for our brains to heal. The brain has to calm down I'd think, before it starts healing. Idk if that's even true, I am not a psychiatrist lol but what you said does make sense.

I'm glad we have eachother for support & insight. We are all intelligent and have common sense and I appreciate that.

No...it's not out there at all..

...you know yourself better than anyone, so I believe this could be the start of a great new stage in your recovery!! :)

...and yes, our systems don't always know how to distinguish anxiety from excitement like you said...the body can react in the same way!

Keep up the hope, great positivity...and all that you are doing to be well.:)

You all are so wonderful. The support here is just the best. Thank you for the respones!

I'm so conflicted. I had a terrible night last night. Anxiety was racing through my body. I couldn't decide if I wanted to run a 5k or go to the ER. What the hell?? Finally calmed down enough to go to to sleep (very broken, bad sleep). Happy to have "reset" and start all over today. I'M very excited for Halloween this weekend. But we have a big wedding to design this weekend too, so I'm hoping the increase in anxiety is from that.

Nobody knows you like you do! It seems to me that this new therapist is a good fit for you and your attitude is fantastic! :)
I encourage you with all my being to keep going forward and you WILL come out the WINNER!

Mom, I don't think it sounds "out there" at all. In fact I can totally relate to how you feel. Sometimes I feel like I'm on the cusp of really getting over a bad hump but then my anxiety gets even worse out of nowhere. For me there is really no rhyme or reason to it and that is why I hate it so much. If there was any sort of predictability it would be so much easier to deal with.

I'm not sure what is going on with our minds and our bodies but I wish they would get on the same page and get us back to normal. I'm doing the same as you and just sort of waiting it out. Some days are much better than others but it all gets old. I do think that in the midst of all of this when it seems so pointless and cruel that we are somehow becoming stronger and learning new ways to think and cope that will serve us well in the future. Keep hanging in there, you are a huge inspiration to me. Oh and I LOVE Halloween, I'm a Halloween freak to be honest. Hopefully it's not going to be freezing where you are though. My kids and I will be wearing winter coats over costumes which is a bummer!

Thank you billy. Noticed you haven't been on in a bit and was hoping you were feeling better:)

Wintery mix here tomorrow for Halloween. Winter coats all around! My moms birthday is also on halloween, so we have always had a celebration on that day.
