Does Xanax make anyone depressed?

This morning I started having a really bad panic attack a little bit after waking up, I later took a xanax 1mg and I was still panicky, so I took the other half, I then became very tired.

I laid down and when I woke up from my nap I felt very very depressed, this has happened many times to me, I don't wake up depressed after sleeping at night(even if I take a xanax before bed), it only seems to make me feel very depressed after a nap, has anyone ever had this happen?

Not really for me. Xanax helps me to breathe a sigh of relief, but maybe your depression was stemming from the fact that you were so upset to have gotten to such a state of anxiety? I've been waking up to mild panic attacks every morning and so yesterday for example, I took my xanax and it took about 25 minutes to kick in and when it did, I found that I was quite upset, cried quite a bit and was a bit depressed, but I adsociated the feelings of depression with the fact that I was so unhappy that I was in such a state of anxiety. Meds do affect everyone differently though, so you never know.

I haven't had that. In fact this spring, it lifted my mood bc I was able to calm down after taking it.

However, that's not to say it's effecting you. You've been going through a lot of emotional pain. Maybe when the anxiety gets quelled, the sad feelings are coming out. I wouldn't be scared to take it though. If you weren't depressed over everything you've been going through, I'd question if the meds were numbing you!

I truly think this is a temporary glitch due to therapy digging up dirt and processing it. Is this a new feeling this week? Keep a log how you feel so you can see if this is a pattern or random during a particularly rough time.

My doctor told me that benzos are depressants and that they can definitely have that effect. I take mine daily and for a good month or do I was just very irritable and cranky. It went away after a bit though

Yes there has been a lot going on, but I see a pattern when I wake up from a nap I feel incredibly empty and alone, like something is SO wrong, after about an hour it seems to go away.

I don't feel this way upon waking in the morning, but almost every day this week I have been overly panicky, I can feel it not long after I get up.

It's really hard to know about the Brintellix, because if I could take away all the pain and heartache I have been going through, would I still feel this way, or is the pain and heartache making me feel this way, I am so confused.

Keep tracks of it so you can tell your doctor. It could also be an "anxiety hangover"or Brene Brown (author), calls it a "vulnerability hangover."

The lingering doom feeling is pure crap. I've had it recently too. It's hard to describe bc in not panicking & it's not depression like I'm used to feeling. It's like in between muck but just as rotten and scary feeling.

Always here for you. We ARE going to get through this craptastic season girl!

Oh wow Lisa, I have never heard of that, I see my doctor the end of November, I think my biggest concern is there really is no ease to my anxiety, at least with zoloft my anxiety subsided greatly, now I seem to be having really aggressive panic attacks and I just find them despicable.

It is like a roller coaster of emotions right now, maybe once I get through some things that quite frankly even a non-depressed person would have sadness over, I will be better, I just hate that my doctor doesn't know if Brintellix will help my anxiety, when anxiety is really a bigger problem than my depression.

Brenee Brown is AMAZING!! Love her to bits!! I first got introduced to her from TED. Definitely useful info.

I don't get that from Xanax, but once in a while I get very sleepy, and that can cause me to be more introspective. Perhaps if one becomes *too* introspective, it can be a tad depressing if we don't *do* something to get going and get moving right after?? Just a thought!
