To my supporters here I have another question for you

I started taking 10mg lexapro on Monday. I also take vvyvanse 70mg. I want it get better as far as my anxiety goes but I do drink on occasion . Does anyone have any experience with this ? I am not depressed at all, just anxious . I read online to never drink with medications but everything online seems to be amplified times ten. Are their any life threatening cases? All I have read is that it could hinder the medicine from working . As well as increased side effects .

If alcohol is a absolute no with the antidepressant , does that mean I basically need to choose either or ?

Hi SMU.,

Good question...and one that you are wise to get answers for.

It is my understanding that with an SSRI, such a Lex, that yes...the efficacy of the med can be lessened with alcohol. You are also correct that s/e's or breakthrough anxiety is a natural result...as well as the effects of the alcohol on the body possibly increasing...so you can get a double whammy effect....becoming intoxicated quicker, and not having the full benefit of your Rx.

That is not to say that all imbibing is out of the question maybe. (as it would be with a benzodiazapine) Ask your doctor about what it considered okay...especially checking for all interactions with other meds you are taking. (I am not familiar with vyvnase and any reactions.)

Hi

This is question that comes up quite a lot and something which people will have different views on. I have drunk alcohol on antidepressants in the past but tend to avoid it now as I found that it had a negative impact on my anxiety and depression but saying that I still do have the occasional drink but keep it to a low level.

Thanks for the advice ! I just know the anwsers and repsponses will vary from people to people . In the past I was able to drink heavily on them and be okay . I also am a bigger guy

"...don't go well together" said my psychiatrist to me when I started medication. Though he never mentioned life threatening issues but he said alcohol decreases the effect of ADs, so if you want to have a good treatment with your meds, then try not to consume alcohol, he said :)
