I'm sick of this!!! driving causes bad panic attacks

Does anyone feel this way I'm so tired?? Been on celexa bout 6 weeks or so overall I'm better but it's still that fear as usual no one deserve to live like this its just awful!!!!! What can I do you guys? Thanks in advance smhair cry BTW I do have xanax just don't wanna get addicted or rely on it daily! Out of 30 pills only took like 3 ugghhh I wanna fight this anxiety but I know it's so much stronger cry

One of the things I tend to fall back on when the discussion of Xanax comes up is that, in my personal opinion, I think it's a knee-jerk reaction where people are concerned about 'getting addicted' to it. Why are you worried? Do you have a history of addiction?

Like other meds of different kinds, when taken as prescribed, they truly *can* be used safely. They were also prescribed as an adjunct to help you, not as a primary coping source. They can't really work if you don't take them or at least try.

Ultimately the decision is yours, and I'm not trying to push or pull you in either direction! :)

No merrida never!!! Just other people talking that's all thanks so much just hate meds overall ugghh I wish I didn't have 2 feel so scared all the time

Don't be scared of the xanax. This medication is for people with panic disorder. It really helps most people. I also have driving anxiety. I suffered a huge panic attack in the car after not having one for 5 years. It's been six months and I still do not like driving. But xanax has helped me get back to driving. It will get better!! Sometimes those stubborn fears take a little bit more to get through. I know your patience is probably wearing thin, but just hang in there.

I am also in a place where I am not doing well driving. Not sure if it is the driving or the leaving the house that gets me so worked up. I take Lexapro everyday and xanax when I am feeling anxious. I really try not to use it, but sometimes you just have to.

I used to be the same way because years ago my first panic attack happened while I was driving with my daughter. She was really young at the time, and I thought I was going to die in the car with her. Since then I had a few other times that just being in the car would cause a panic attack. I had months where I would stop going places all because I didn't want to drive. The only thing I can say is I used xanax, and I started listening to spiritual c.d.'s because it seemed to help calm me down. I also began to tell myself that this happens all the time, and I am going to stop letting it get to me. I wish you the best, and wish I had more to help you. It took me a while to get it together also. It truly sucks when you have anxiety about driving. Good luck to you..

I am pleased to hear that the Celexa is starting to work for you it can take up to 8 weeks to feel the full benefits so stick with it. Taking medication is not a cure all it will only help to ease your symptoms which is why I always recommend to members to do some type of talking therapy such as Cognitive behaviour Therapy which will teach you to identify your triggers to anxiety and then teach you coping techniques so that you can manage your anxiety better, have you ever done any talking therapy? Just a suggestion.

With regards to the driving anxiety I think a lot of us in the forum can relate to that myself included I only drive during daylight hours as I get to anxious driving at night.

If you monitor your xanax use, you should have no problem. I took it for years w/o getting addicted!
As to driving, I am fortunate b/c I like driving. When I'm driving, I am in control and in my own little world! Go figure! My first pdoc was surprised too!

I am like you and get very afraid to drive, especially with my son in the car. The only med I'm on right now is Xanax, .5mg, 3x a day. My doctor said that I have no history of addiction so I should be fine. He said that right now I am relying on xanax as one of my primary tools, but relying on something and being addicted are two different things. I'm not sure when I'll taper off, but for now, I'm happy with the results I'm getting with the xanax and I'm doing what I have to do to function.

I love driving, but these panic attacks have taken over. Too afraid.
