Horrible hypochondriac

Hi there,
I am a 20 yr old female and otherwise healthy. I have been diagnosed with major depressive disorder/anxiety which has manifested itself into health anxiety and constantly worried about being terminally ill. First it was acid build up from stress which i was convinced was some kind of cancer in my stomach because it was content burning pain. Blood tests all clear as well as an ultrasound. Now I have been having chiropractic work for a month or so and suffering one sided headaches almost daily. Went to the ER once and after listing all my symptoms they didn't even want to do a brain scan and assured me it is a daily migraine plus a manifest of stress and tension. Although this is the logical explanation I am convinced it's a brain tumour of course and it is a constant thought of mine especially after getting stabbing pains in one side which i was told is a common anxiety symptom it's driving me mad. Wondering if theres anyone else out there that suffers from a lot of headaches from anxiety and how you have managed not to stress about them. ( the more i think about them the worse they feel) What a horrible thing hypochondria is. Love to everyone feeling this horrible thing.

I agree with Jennings. Mind over matter. The mind can create things and symptoms that aren't there.

I am taking Lexapro. Have been on it for 10 days now. Experiencing some side effects, Yawning a lot, insomnia, trembles/shakes mostly in legs and of course headaches. So I guess a lot of my head weirdness/pain is due to being new on these meds plus anxiety its just hard to accept that when you're already afraid of it. Some self help would be great if you could post them for me, I try distract myself with things but I can't fully forget about it most the time.

I worry about my health quite often when Im having anxiety. I cant really do much about it because I dont have insurance and though Im worried sometimes I tell myself It is anxiety and eventually it will pass. And always it will pass....Sometimes it seems to go on for hours because it is still in my mind that just maybe something is wrong.....Its hard to get through but talking on here and having support did help me last night when I was real bad.

I get recurring pains on one side of my head that I always think are a precursor of a stroke or brain tumor or something else terminal. I'm sure yours are just anxiety based but I understand how we never can believe that and always have to think the worst. Stinkin-thinkin.

Please dont worry or be embarrased im the same..im forever worrying im having a heart attack as get pains in chest and arms.. ive had bloods.ecg.chest xray and all ok but im still gettin all these pains and im convinced something serious is up with me :'( ive got a massive fear of death and im soooo bad for googling symptoms which make me worse :( hope u get sorted soon xxx

Really does help to know others are feeling the same way. My anxiety started after a rough patch in my life of losing my dad, my job and being homeless. I have always had it though and i know this because i worry sick if my partner isn't home the time he says thinking he's died in a car crash. forever thinking worse case. I did it when i was younger too, was terrified of losing my parents and i have always been a worrier. I think not having something to distract me and being so stressed increased it to the point of feeling it physically and thinking about it 24/7. I seem to wake up each day at the moment with a new pain or stiffness which in my logical thinking brain is a side effect of lexapro but in my anxiety brain it's something worse and i need to seek reassurance. I was just reading through everyone's responses and I realized just how lucky (and blessed) I am to be among all these wonderful people. I never knew the meaning of true support until I found this place! Jesse, if you continue posting (and I hope you do), you will see exactly what I am talking about.

Don't forget, the initial start up of an SSRI usually causes increased anxiety and irritation. I am willing to bet this is the cause of your heightened HA! Begin practicing your coping skills and this will pass!
