Every time I awake at night to use the restroom the first thing I think about is dying. I never focus on it during the day it's always on my mind as soon as I wake at night.

DS,

My worries increase at night. There are no distractions, all it quiet...you are vulnerable and your defenses down...

Using your positive mantras and other coping skills is key during these times.

Practicing during the day when you are feeling strong it hard to do, I know...but it is the perfect time actually...

...in this way you are ready when you need them most.:)

Hi

As SC mentioned your anxiety can quite often increase at night time and I often wake during the night feeling anxious. Use any coping skills you have and have a look into mindfulness mediation as I think this will help you with this specific problem.

Deborah, sometimes when i wake up at night, for the bathroom thing, my heart feels like its going to break

Sleep puts your body in its most vulnerable state, so it's normal. Completely normal. In the middle of the night are my craziest thoughts

Hi Deborah,

Just my point of view, but I think it is natural to think of death and dying sometimes. As long as you are not obsessing about it. If you are, I recommend finding someone to talk to about it. This could be a supportive friend, family member or a therapist.

My thought is that, if you have this dying anxiety EVERY time you awake, it's a habit, the kind of thing that CBT can deal with. If you are able to go back to sleep, I wouldn't worry too much about about the fact that you are having these particular thoughts. As others have said, we all have disturbing thoughts/worries.

Count me in for middle of the night feeling worse than daytime. I can cope better during the day but night time scares me.

My anxiety tends to increase at night also, however I don't have thoughts of dying, those usually creep in when I have arm or chest pain.

I don't really think about dying if I wake up to go to the bathroom, but I have noticed I have a lot more death anxiety right when I first go to bed. I have to have the TV turned on to something I enjoy to take my mind off things until I get to the point I can't hold my eyes open. Then I will lay down to sleep.

There are a few times shortly after I've dozed off I've jolted awake on the verge of an anxiety attack or other reason, and the first thoughts I have is thinking about death. So, I can't really offer any help on the why, but I can tell you that you are not alone.
