Hey all,

My friend woke up this past Saturday with extreme symptoms and was confirmed to have strep. We exchanged saliva the day before.

For the last two days I've had a sore throat. I lost my voice today so I made a doctors appointment for tomorrow. I only have one pus spot on my tonsil.

Am I overreactkng to make an appointment? I'm doing it because of the confirmed strep case but I'm not in severe pain at all. It's just bothersome and I'm very fatigued today.

Has anyone had mild symptoms that ended up being strep? I've never had it before. I feel stupid going to the doctor :(

The most common symptoms of strep throat are:

A sudden, severe sore throat.
Pain when you swallow.
Fever over 101 °F (38.3 °C).
Swollen tonsils and lymph nodes.
White or yellow spots on the back of a bright red throat.

I thought I had strep a week ago!
It was the most painful sore throat ever!
I had a mild fever,aches and pains,swollen lymph nodes and generally did not feel well.
Doctor said I had viral laryngitis but I wasn't sure.
I've had laryngitis before and it wasn't like this.
Anyway how would he know without doing a rapid strep test?
Ask the doctor for one of these tests to make sure.
I'm taking antibiotics at the moment (penicillin) just to be on the safe side.
My throat is just about back to normal! Thank goodness!

Glad you're feeling better! I feel generally bad but my sore throat is very mild. It just seems strange that I would have a coincidental viral infection when I had been directly exposed to an easily transmittable bacterial infection... we'll see tomorrow!

It's possible as I know strep is highly contagious.
Let us know how ya get on at the doctors!

AJ,

You are not over reacting at all. Strep is easily treatable, but can lead to serious complications if left untreated.

It is wise to get checked out and get on the abx you need if Strep is confirmed.

Perhaps you have not contracted it even though you were exposed...but better safe than sorry! (you may just have a run of the mill virus, but it is impossible to tell without a swab test)
