Sorry I'm such a broken record lately, but I have a question for those with a home blood pressure monitor. Have you ever had yours show an abnormal heart rate symbol? I looked back at my blood pressure readings from last night and I noticed that a few times I had this pop up while I was having high blood pressure and heart rate. I've never had that show before. :(

Has anyone ever had this show up on theirs? I'm feeling sick to my stomach and I don't understand why things have gone off the rails so bad. Feeling hopeless.

Yes, I have had this...an no, I do not put much stock in it at all!

I used to have the type of machine that 'alerted' you to an abnormal rhythm...and I dumped it!

While you can trust an accurate BP reading, this is not an EKG 'mini me'.;p...

...and as such, it can't distinguish between a benign palp and something else.

This is going to cause you undue worry.

Put trust in what the doctors and ER visits have told you, not this.

I would recommend getting a cuff that measures pulse and BP only...for your peace of mind.:)

It wouldn't bother me so much if it didn't happen when I had the sudden onset of tachycardia and high blood pressure. I have never had the monitor show it ever before. Makes me feel like there was some weird new heart rhythm disorder that showed up. :(

Funny thing, when I bought it I saw one of them had that alert and I was like, no way. ..I don't need that! So, I thought the one I bought didn't have it. :/

The one thing that S.C. said that stood out to me is that it is NOT an EKG mini machine. I don't honestly think that the cuffs are reliable in detecting irregular heart beats and even if they did show it, you've had all the appropriate tests recently that confirm for you that your irregularities are benign. You're good to go!!! :)

I have one, and have seen that symbol a few times. Usually during a high stress moment, or a panic situation. I did some reading on it and from what I gathered they not only pick up true abnormal rythems, but also variations in heart rate while the monitor is on. So if you start taking your pressure and your pulse is 70, but then you start to get scared about the result and your pulse suddenly jumps to 100 during the reading, the monitor could get confused and see this as an arrhythmia. You can also get that warning if you twitch, or move around too much during a reading. Try to relax, because it's not something abnormal, and most likely you are perfectly fine :)

Sorry to hear about your troubles MissGigi. Sounds like you've had a rough week!

I don't happen to have a BP machine, because I know I would fret about it too much if I did. I got a Fitbit Charge HR for my bday a couple weeks ago, and I have been more worried about my heart rate/pulse since getting it. Sometimes I'll check it, and it will say 115 or something pretty high, but when I actually feel for my pulse it's more around 80-85, which is what I'm at normally. Machines can be wacky sometimes; as Cianna said if they get a weird beat or don't detect something correctly they can be all out of sorts and end up freaking ourselves out more than normal.

Have a cup of tea/cocoa/coffee/wine, and relax! You'll be better, I promise.
