Oh No...Vertigo. :(

Hey guys,

Could use some positive thoughts and prayers right now, as I am suffering a vertigo episode.

It started yesterday and is affecting me most when I move my head, and when lying down.

It feels like the whole room is rotating, and my eyes can't track. It is really uncomfortable (nausea included, yayness!) and of course is taking a lot of discipline and coping skills not to be worried about it!

It may be migraine related as I feel the typical brain fog and moderate headache pain that I periodically get from those...

Positive feedback/encouragements and or commiseration stories would be appreciated.

I hope you fell better soon.

My friend a while ago had it severe, for a week or so. But then it got better by itself. She wasn't even able to stand properly and had to sit/rest very often.

It was most likely something related to her ear because she said she got a type of mild infection some time ago.

I know it's very hard to use coping skills but we are here for you.

Sounds familiar SC! Had something very similar happen to me last year. Like you, I had vertigo while lying and when I get up. My eyes couldn't track either. Had it checked by an ENT doc and she first thought it was an ear infection. Then she suggested I get a MRI. Nothing really showed...but the vertigo lasted a few months. It got better gradually. I'm ok now although when I am really tired it happens. Mine occured under a lot of stress (caused by family *yes, again*). Are you under stress at the moment?

I think you should get it checked by your ENT in case you have in ear infection.

S.C. ~ I'm so sorry to hear of the trouble you're experiencing now! I don't have any personal experience with vertigo. I do get dizzy and light headed w panic attacks, but not true vertigo. I think there are many benign causes to vertigo, but you should still maybe think about checking with your doctor.

We're all here to support you how ever we can! You know all the coping skills better than anyone and you can get through this challenge. All my best.

ugggh I get this too
according to my dr. I form crystals in my inner ear
I don't know about that- it's often triggered by riding elevators or being on a boat...

Anyhoo- besides being prescribed something for motion sickness meclizine oral I have also been told to do this to dislodge the crystals and get rid of the vertigo.

Lie down. Sit straight up fast and quickly turn your head to the right.
Lie back down and repeat only turning your head to the left.

Do it a few times.

You may feel barfy :(

Hope it clears up soon for you. I know it's an awful feeling.

I know that dizzy feeling is just yucko, but you know what it is so you'll be able to manage through it. Sending prayers that you don't end up with a migraine!! I get them and have to get doped up in migraine meds and surround my head with ice packs to handle them and it's not pleasant! Do some breathing while you're lying down and try to relax.

Sometimes when you have vertigo, it's good to stare at just one spot usually at eye level so it doesn't make you feel worse, and focus on your breathing and staying grounded. Try doing it while sitting up since you're experiencing dizziness while laying down. Have you ever considered wearing those equilibrium bracelets? They're usually used for seasickness, but I've used them for vertigo and they are a $2.99 miracle!

Oh man!! What a bummer!! Try not to fall down! Lol. I'm only kidding.......hope it's ok to joke! :/

I have been really dizzy as of late as well. Suffering lots of dizzy spells. I think it just comes with being young and awesome, right! Since that is what we are, huh!!! :D

I am feeling a lot better! I did do the head tilt exercises and it has seemed to help.

I will see about getting looked at if this becomes more of a regular issue for me. Right now they are so few and far between, I have been putting it off.

Still have an on and off again headache, but that is pretty much my migraine pattern.

I have some motion sickness wristbands that we bought for our daughter...so I will remember to break those out next time!

Great support and advice by all of you...just as I knew I would get!! Our members are THE BEST in the world.

I feel your pain and have suffered with the SAME exact thing in the past. My anxiety keeps me from taking pills (pill phobia) however I once suffered from a bad enough episode of vertigo as you describe that I ended up taking medication that truly helped. It was meclazine, have you tried it? Although it made me sleepy and a slight headache after napping, it made the vertigo completely go away. I took a smaller dose than normally prescribed as I am hypersensitive to medications. Cutting the dose in half helped with the side effects of this medication. Although I still had side effects (sleepy, slight headache) it was not nearly as bad as when I tried it the first time at the full dose. And the half dose still made the vertigo stop. You know, now that we are on the topic - why do we suffer from vertigo??? I have a BAD history of anxiety especially thinking I have a mystery illness. Did you receive a diagnosis for your vertigo? Why do we anxiety sufferers have this - could it possibly be due to our chronic anxious state?

Mine seem to be migraine related. Do you suffer migraines?

They are not always your typical pounding headache...in fact, my headaches are moderate, but I have other issues along with the vertigo.

I have trouble finding the right words, and really have to concentrate on my speech.

I also get confusion/brain fog, fatigue and sensitivity to noise.

Here is an article to check out. Vestibular migraines often present with vertigo.

(anxiety is also associated with several inner ear issues...so that is another consideration.)

oh no sorry sc! try to rest and feel better! I know that I get this once in awhile from a bad allergy attack. I hope its not a migraine those are horrible. Feel better soon!! if anyone can get through this you can missy. it is a very awkward feeling I know.

SC- thanks for posting your info! That's exactly what's been happening to me! I also feel a lot of pressure around my eyebrows, like a sinus headache, but my sinuses are clear. And I feel like my auditory system wavers between muffled and no filter. I see an ENT next week and will try to talk to him about this.

Odd, I really thought my PPIs were bringing on these symptoms, but now I'm second guessing myself (again). Aldo, seems worse in the afternoon after I eat lunch.

Sorry to hear you are having vertigo I know that can be very unsettling but glad to hear you are feeling a bit better as others have said I would make an appointment to see your doctor if your headache continues.

Woke up feeling much better!! Brain fog is gone...lingering headache...nothing bad.

Going to try to do something fun with the kiddo today...everyday this week actually. It is Winter break and we are doing a 'stay-cation' since the hubs is not off.

Thanks again for all of your thoughts, prayers and support. You guys are a treasure and blessing that I would never trade for the world!!

Have you ever tried meclazine? I too get migraines and sometimes without headache. I also have been diagnosed with having an inner ear disorder.....BPPV

No I have not...I know several people have mentioned it...and I have read about it.

This migraine thing is still fairly new for me, and they happen so infrequently, that I have not really pursued treatment for it.

However, it is in my family...my sister and my oldest daughter both suffer with them...

If I continue to have I will see about talking Rx's with my doctor.

Do you take migraine med, and does it help with the pre-aura stuff? I can stand the headache...it all the other stuff that is scary/awful!
