Upping Dosage and increased anxiety... advice please :)

Hey ya'll :)

It has been officially been over 2 months since I have started lexapro.
Started 2.5mg for a week, then 5mg for the next 6 weeks (and had some absolutely amazing days being anxiety free!!! YAY)

Have been on 7.5mg for one week and holy cow, my anxiety has been crap to say the least! lol
But - today I am up to 10mg because USUALLY thats the recommended dosage and I'm trying to fully kick anxiety in the butt!! haha

My doctor said I can try it because my anxiety is still not 100% under control.... boo! And worse case scenario it won't work for me and il lower my dosage again or even try another.

It just sucks because I totally know its my anxiety and OCD but just can't stop the anxiety sometimes :( :(

BUT - through it all I am staying so positive, because you have to!

Just wanting to know if others had an increase of anxiety going up in their dosage and how long it lasted please :)

Lauren, many, many of our people have had various degrees of anxiety when changing or uping a med,
some just didnt think they would ever get better, those who forged on and went forward as far as i know
are now anxiety free, well we all have a bad day time to time but most are good, Peace

Increases typically bring some increased anxiety/se's...but they do not usually last as long as the initial start up effects since your body is somewhat acclimated to the med already.

Everyone is different, but giving it another week or two at most should find you feeling better.:)

I had to try various meds before finding the "right" one. None of them take away all the anxiety...that has been coming with therapy and different techniques for relaxing. I've found mindfulness to be really great and often listen to guided meditation which I download on my Kindle. Remember, it takes time for the new dose to work...hopefully you will feel much better within a week!

Hi!

When I was increasing the dosage it always took me a week - a week and a half until my anxiety lessens. When I increased from 10mg to 15mg, I was veryyy bad, I couldn't cope, I am also OCD type of person, discovered this during these months of my latest relapse. I continued taking the 15 mg and I got better after a week and a half, less depressive thoughts, less anxiety.. it takes time
BE PATIENT
It will work... Mine worked finally after 3 months of upping the dosage- felt like I was going crazy
Most importantly believe that this phase will pass... it always does :)

Hi

Lexapro imo is a good medication and it works well at treating anxiety but as SC mentioned it is the norm to experience more anxiety when changing the dose but that should settle after a couple of weeks so stick with it if you can.

And the increased anxiety, it's just for a week or so. It will definitely go away and you will feel anxiety free again soon I promise :)

Hello laurenmaree. I am experiencing the same increased anxiety with Lexapro dosage increases as you. From all I read and have been told by my doctor... this is normal. I originally started with 10 Mg for 4 days but it completely whipped my butt so I went down to 5 MG. That got me back to the way I felt before starting the meds which is anxiety and obsessing about things that can go wrong. I was on 5 MG for 2 weeks. Then increased to 7.5 for a couple of days. I did not see any major negative changes so I went right up to 10. I have been on 10 mg for 6 days now. I did see an increase in anxiety for sure. For the most part I am tolerating it but there have been some moments in this 6 days that have threw me for a loop. I plan on sticking to the 10 mgs to see how it makes me feel.

I am glad to hear you are staying positive. Keep your chin up. Your positive attitude is good.

Hi Laurenmaree,

I am on Cipralex also known as lexapro, I have increased my dosage the same as savruby, from 10mg to 15mg, exactly a week ago, its been tough, ranging from depressive thoughts, increased anxiety, chest feels a bit tight, wanting things to perfect (compulsions), headache (dull), but in between these, I have really good moments, like yesterday I felt great, the day before I felt absolutely rubbish! I find that during these periods sleep plays a huge role in how severe my se's are. So get enough sleep and R&R time in :)
