I'm just excited to report that today I went to a dr's appointment all by myself. The doctor was just about
7 miles from my house, but I was terrified as I have gotten bad panic attacks at dr's offices- especially once I am in a tiny exam room. I feel dizzy and like I will fall or pass out.
But I did it! I did get extremely anxious at first and was shaking and told the nurse and dr I get panic attacks and was kind of rambling and nervous for a while. I was sure I would have to run screaming out of the office in my paper gown in a panic :) But eventually calmed down and the rest of my appt was fine.
By the time I left I felt so relieved and calm. And proceeded to go to the pharmacy and grocery store by myself. I have a hard time going anywhere by myself so this was a big victory!

I don't even know you yet I feel so happy for you. It is so important to post these victories to give us other folks some hope and encouragement. I know, truly, what a big deal this is. Good for you!
Might I ask what got you to do it--did you just run out of options to go there or where you just committed to doing this by yourself? Some times I am "forced into" doing things that are hard for me and then I finally get it done and am amazed that I did it. This "exposure" method is something they say we should practice more often but for me, now matter how many times I do things it never seems to get easier. Hopefully one day...

Littlewing75 - Thank you so much for sharing today. I really needed to read this to feel encouragement for myself. Hearing other people's victories reassures me that I can get to a point of living with anxiety and not letting it control me. Thank you!

You are a conqueror! Congrats! May it inspire you to stretch yourself and try something else that you feel that you can't do.

Thank you so much, all of you, for being happy for me and your encouragement, your comments literally made me start to tear up. I am so grateful for each of you and a place to go where people understand, and are so supportive. Thank you thank you! Thank you for sharing this with me.
Lindamine, I have been doing exposure therapy for over a year now, but I had a big set back, a bad panic attack while I was out with my daughter, about
15 miles away from home, and ended up sitting in a parking lot for 2 hours thinking maybe I should call an ambulance. I haven't been back out that far yet, but I thought maybe I could attempt this because it was in town. I really did not want to have to ask my husband to go with me, as things are not good between us and I really really want to get some independence back. Even at the doctor's office when I did start to feel panicky, I just kept telling myself well, no safer place to be if I am going to pass out or something than in a doctor's office. I find that it helps me too if I just tell people up front that I am anxious and get panic attacks (I used to feel mortified and try to act like nothing was wrong). It was the first thing I said to the receptionist, and she was so nice, I started to relax.
