First I want to say I really didnt want to put this in the anxiety forum because I knew greater detail would be needed. But its much too important of a topic not to.
Littlewing, I feel for you. Especially learning you were on synthroid. T4 only meds arent the answer, and unfortunately youre findng out most docs are unwilling to treat these issues properly. You need naturally dessicated thyroid, as it closely mimics the human thyroid, synthetic doesnt. And again, synthetics only include t4. Dessicated thyroid contains t4 t3 t2 t1 and calcitonin, exactly what our thyroids produce. Do you know the most common cause of hypothyroidism is Hashimotos disease? Did you also know that nearly 100% of people with Hashimotos cannot completely, or at all, convert t4 to t3 as a healthy person does? Thise people also commonly have deficiencies in iron and cortisol issues, on top of deficiencies in vitamin d, b12, ferritin and folate.
Littlewing, and others who may have trouble finding a doc. Think outside of the box. Go to your local pharmacy and ask what doctors in your area prescribe Armour, Acella, or Nature-Throid. Btw, Acella has the least fillers and is one you should look for, if you indeed need medicated.
Again, Hashimotos disease is an autoimmune disorder. Selenium can lower a Hashimotos attack. Do yourself a favor and google 300+ hypothyroid symptoms. And read.
If you think you may have a thyroid issue, find a doctor. Try what I stated above. Look for an Osteopath, a DO. They are trained to treat the whole body. Forget Endocrinologists. Even though they are trained in endocrinology, most go by the book and test and treat by TSH labs. TSH is a good indicator of hypothyroid and hyperthyroid issues, but you CANNOT treat by TSH alone, as TSH is a pituitary gland, not thyroid. You MUST be treated by FREE T4(which is a thyroid storage hormone that gets converted to T3), FREE T3(which is the only active thyroid hormone), RT3(reverse T3 which t4 is converted to when we have T4 to T3 conversion problems, common with Hashimotos), and thyroid antibodies.
I can go on and on and on. But this isnt the forum for It. If you suspect, after doing the searches I mentioned, that the thyroid or autoimmunity may be causing your anxiety, dont hesitate to get checked out!!! If you have digestive issues on top of panic attacks and anxiety, or palpitations, definitely get tested ASAP!! Remember,STTM and 300+ symptoms....do those searches and educate yourself. Please. Some of you may be suffering and you may not have to be. Thank you.
PS....I am taking Acella Np. Sorry forgot to add that.
