Can babies sense anxiety?

Just curious after a few experiences with my nephew (he's 6 months old). Sometimes he would seem quite distressed when in my company, but other times, particularly today, he would be quite happy and smiley with me (today being one of my good days).

I was wondering if anyone here had similar experiences? I have read that it is common with their parents but couldn't find anything about other people.

They say that children are a lot more intuitive than we realize...

...and yes it seems that the more confident and experienced (think grandparents) people seem to be 'baby whisperers' ;)

So maybe...?

As your nephew grows...he will be less intimidating and more fun to interact with...and I am sure you will be the favorite uncle!! :)

Good to hear that you value family...it's a connection we all need!

Generally speaking, babies spend more time with women....

The different/deeper voice from men can scare them... Men with beards can scare babies...

If mom is feeling apprehensive about meeting a stranger....baby will feel the same way...

So ya, they are pretty in-tune with what's going on around them.

Then there was the time I was holding a baby and having a jolly good ol time.. Baby started doing her business in her diapers and was making staining type of faces... I too started making straining types of faces which must have scared her to death. "Lesson Learned" LOL

I don't know about babies but I do know dogs can sense it.I was learning to be a groomer and when I had high anxiety all the dogs would try to bite me. I am usually very very good with animals.

Without a doubt, babies and pet, but it's not a bad thing, just try to relax, Peace

Night, dogs can. Haha, so kids wouldn't surprise me. I remember sensing tension relatively early on.

Steve is right. My beard scared one child. I was afraid of my dad for no other reason than he was the loudest human I knew at the time. He likely wasn't, but I also thought my preschool principal whom I never saw was a monster.
