when will Zoloft kick in???

Hi All,
Can someone please tell me how long it takes for Zoloft to kick in??? Does it make a difference if I was on Prozac for 35 days prior? I wake up very anxious and don't sleep well... When will insomnia go away???

Hi GG,

Typically A/D ' s can take several weeks to come to theraputic levels. ..and ironically can increase symptoms before alleviating them.

Hopefully within another week you will start to feel better. For now, use your coping skills to help keep your overall anxiety as low as possible.

If you are having trouble sleeping, perhaps switching your dosage time to the morning would be beneficial.

S.C. is right. Because everyone is different, it's hard to answer. For me, I think Zoloft is helping me sleep. I used to wake up in the middle of the night all the time and I haven't since I started taking the med. I've been on zoloft for approximately 9 days and I think I already feel a change.

I got anxious and short of breath last night at a restaurant and usually that would start to ruin my whole experience, but I was able to let it go much quicker.

Still have feelings of extreme foggy brain dr/dp... I know these will decrease when the mess kick in... I am trying to keep myself busy.... plus I quit drinking diet soda so I think I'm feeling withdrawals from the caffeine and aspartame...
I'm desperate to feel better....

being I was on prozac for 5 weeks do you think that will lesson the side effects because I already with taking An ssri?

It could, since thet are the same drug classification...however, many people react to different meds within the same family differently...

...or even notice changes in the same Rx between name brand vs. generic, so it just depends on how sensitive your system is.

Hopefully this will make the transition easier though!

I have been taking Zoloft for the last seven months.....before, Zoloft, I was taking Paxil for eight years or more. Anyway, these meds take longer to "alleviate" our anxiety/depression.

Eventually, perhaps, in the no distant future, we will have a "miracle" pill to do away with all this anxiety.....but, at the present - we have all these meds, that do work, but take time. For me, Zoloft started working after six weeks......hang in there.

Hi

It can take anywhere between 6-8 weeks before you will see the full benefits of an antidepressant.

I would say that if you are still getting side effects you need to go and speak with your doctor.
