Lexapro discussion

Hi All - Just wanted to start a thread about people's experiences with lexapro. I'm into my 3rd week on it, 10mg. I haven't noticed any real changes yet, but am still hopeful that I will. I do have some dry mouth and increased sweating, maybe a little heightened anxiety some days but no intolerable side effects from it at least.

I've been on Lexapro since August of 2014. I was on it about 7 years ago as well.

I had every single side effect imaginable, but I stuck it out, and was glad I did.

Some of them can get very irritating, like the increased anxiety. I am now on 20 mg, and I had side effects again when I increased from the 10 mg. I am very sensitive to meds though.

I hope you are able to continue with the med, and that you will see positive results.

Thank you for the responses! I'm ready for it to kick in. Jake'sMom, were you at 10mg for awhile before being bumped up to 20? They had me try something else at first but I had a horrible reaction, so now it's onto the lexapro.

Lexapro is a good medication imo it's probably the best AD I have taken and I have been on a few over the years.

3 weeks is still early in your start up it takes around 6-8 weeks before you will see improvements.

Yes, vivid dreams are a pretty commom effect of starting a new A/D Rx. Many members have experienced this from what I have read!

Confusion/lack of focus are also pretty expected at first start up. It can take your body and mind several weeks to adjust to the new medication...so try and be patient.

Of course, anxiety on its own can also be the cause of these two issues. I don't use medication, and I have had plenty of both! ;p

Using the coping skills, such as the ones in our Resources can really make a positive difference in how you feel...and ease the s/e's of a start up...

...as well as beyond, helping anxiety management in the long term!

Did you and your doctor talk about when you would be do starting an increase?

At 10 mg, yo are at the lowest dosage (starting level) and certainly have room to go up.

I would call and set up a consult regarding this if you've not done so already.

Remember to keep up with your therapy/self help skills, as meds are only part of the anxiety management equation.

Just wanted to give my input on this. I have been prescribed a series of Ad's over the last few years. I have to say I used google to research lexapro one too many times. Too the point that I do not take it.

I am supposed to be taking 30mg which is a significant amount. I think the thing that is unfortunate for me is that I may have my miracle drug sitting in the counter and just haven't worked up the nerve to try it . I am going through the same struggles you are.

I think a thing with me is that I do drink on occasion and I do not want to completely not ever drink again because I am on this medication. That has been my ultimate reason for not taking it. So I would just do what your doctor tells you and place faith in them if you think you can.
