My wife just told me that she is pregnant and Even though I had a feeling that she might be im still in a bit of shock. All of these things going through my head (wil you be a good father? How can you take care of another human if you cant take care of yourself) Im worried that with my current mental state I wont do a good job and that my anxiety is just going to take over. I need to be there for my wife, I need to be there for our child. I just hope that I can eventually absorb all this because I feel like I just hit another roadblock with my anxiety. I thought im supposed to be happy and estatic about this!!!!!

Wow!! Big news indeed! Congratulations! !!

You are going to be fine! You are doing all the right things to get into your recovery...and it IS happening. ..

...it just takes time and seems to go slowly as you are waiting!

You are going to be a great father. ..I have no doubt.

Have the same confidence in yourself!

There are no perfect parents...just those of us that try, and love...and are still works in progress.:)

Congrats, AK! I agree that you will be a great dad. :) My brother had really bad anxiety issues before he and his wife were expecting, but once their daughter was born, he said he was a changed man and was over the moon happy and didn't have panic attacks anymore. Who knows, your child might help with your healing process, too.

i know it is scary becoming a father when you have anxiety issues, ive done it twice..
but also know that you have strength you dont know that you have..and as a parent you will find that out..
it may not feel like it now but what you are going thru will make you a better person and a better father than you would have been without it..it is part of your growth..
and there is nothing like having a child to shift your focus outside yourself..which i really feel is a huge key to conquering anxiety
rejoice and be glad you are in for a wonderful adventure

I know how you feel, except I'm the pregnant one! There's a reason we get 9 months to prepare, we have to get used to the idea. I'm 7 weeks along and I'm just now starting to accept it. It took me nearly a month to get there, but it's happening.

It's easy to think of all the crazy anxious thoughts that comes with such big news, but think of all the positive things too! You're going to watch a little human grow into a person, someone that will lover you unconditionally, someone to take your mind off all the crazy things in life.

Congrats to you, enjoy the ride.

There are a lot of fears involved in becoming a first time parent. As others have said, you will do great. I did it 4 times in under 4 years! Every day is a challenge, but the joy they bring you is beyond words.
