need to get off of lexapro ASAP

I've been on 5 milligrams of lexapro for the past couple of months sometimes I try to go up to 7.5 then down to 2.5 but all in all I have a crushing depressed feeling 24/7 I have not been able to leave my bed in a week. I'm completely full of doom and gloom and feel lifeless. I do not have a shred of happiness inside of me. I truly believe that is this medication. I did not take my medicine today and I'm hoping that I'll be ok. I tried to call my doctor 4xs, no call back!!! this isn't the first time that he has not called me back in such a dire situation.. I went to the emergency room on Saturday because I feel so horrible but I didn't qualify to be admitted. my question is can I just stop taking this medicine I truly feel like it's killing me in every sense of the word

No do not just stop it doesn't matter if you're on extreme low dose you're already on it for a couple of months so you have to wean yourself down you can either stop that or call your doctor and see if they would switch you to another antidepressant so you can just go from one right to the other. If you do not want to do that and you just want to stop I would take 5 mg for two weeks and 5 mg for another two weeks every other day and then cut down to 2.5 for two weeks and then 2.5 for two weeks every other day that's how I weaned myself off after eight years of being on it but I was on 10 mg and I weaned myself off of it over four month span per my Dr. I'm not a doctor I would call your doctor or if you can't get a hold of him go to an urgent care and see if they can give you directions on weaning off. It's okay gypsygirl, your Dr. said to just stop the Lexapro. As I stated earlier you were at a starter dose and the reason you can just stop the Lexapro. You will be fine.
