Hey guys,

Well I think may have caused my SSRIs to stop working. Over the past week ive had 2-3 beers here and there. Now i feel like i forgot how to feel normal. I feel like my anxiety is lingering and maybe a bit of depression settling in? I know I shouldnt be drinking with lexapro but I need to know if the SSRIs have stopped working?

I don't think 2-3 beers over the course of a week would do this. How long have you been on lex for? Are there any other reasons why you may be feeling down? Sometimes it just happens and that's really all there is to it. Try not to feel like it's something that you did and focus on doing things that make you happy. Hope you feel better!

I agree...

...sounds like you may just be having a temporary case of breakthrough anxiety. It can happen due to imbibing, but it won't last...and could just be a random thing that does happen.

That's why it's important to keep up with your coping skills and continue to seek new management tools in order to cover the areas that the meds can't always one hundred percent eliminate.

When is your next therapy session? Maybe you and your therapist can come up with a good action plan.:)

I agree with Scaredy. How long have you been on Lexapro? When I was taking SSRI's I remember getting to a point where I couldn't really tell if they were working, or not. It's not like they are a miracle happy pill, after all. In my experience, SSRI's were only one part of a full program of resources.
Try to remember to be as kind to yourself as you would be to someone else.

Aloha,

Have you increased your Meds??? You were suppose to speak to your dr. about. You have been on a low dose for months now and as I told you many times you need to up your Meds. You may need that extra dose to help you. Drinking is not going to stop the Meds from working. So a drink here and there is ok to have :). Happy thoughts buddy. And please see your dr. about upping or changing your Meds.

Sounds like breakthrough anxiety speak to your doctor about an increase.

Alcohol can have a negative impact on your medication but with just a few beers you should be fine but drinking every day would be a different story.

Having some beers can stop the medication from working to its full extent so breakthrough anxiety is definitely a reason.
Its important to know that it could be time for an increase or switch also.
If this persists, be in contact with your DR.
In the mean time like my helpful colleagues have said. Use your coping skills in the meantime. I use them all the time when Im in limbo /
Also, do you have beers often? Its important that you are not drinking regularly
