JC,
I know a few members here have had a scope...
...but also check in with the GERD forum if you've not done so yet...as you will surely get responses there!
Use your coping skills to help you through the fears/worries. Get as informed and reassured about
the procedure as possible through your doctor as well. You will be alright!

Hi JC-
Yes, I had a scope done last September. Honestly, it did not hurt at all, not even after it was done. No sore throat, nothing. However, the anxiety leading up to the test and then waiting for the results was the absolute worst part. I have extreme difficulties just seeing a doctor let alone having testing done and then waiting (what seems like forever) to get the results. Why is a scope being recommended?

You didn't say what kind of "scope" or which direction they'd be scopping you. Are you getting an Endoscopy?
If so, they're pretty easy.

Hi Steve n Dallas,I hope not, maybe the barium swallow would be easier. I guess it depends on what the Dr says.

HI JC,
An endoscopy is really easy. I've had several.

JC,
I suspected I was having heart issues, but when nothing was found there, my doctor sent me to a GI guy to be scoped. I've had three done and have not had anything negative come from the scope itself. Only in rare instances does anything go wrong. However, remember that everything has risk attached with it... even every day stuff. You'll need a driver to drive you there, to wait, and then to take you home as you'll be a bit woozy. But yeah, no worries. Look me up when you get your results if you have any concerns. I'm not a doctor, but I've really been through it the past five years or so with GI stuff. Much love.

When you say scope I'm not sure what you mean.
If you go to an ENT or speech therapist they can do a scope through your nose, no drugs needed, no prep, no big deal. It can identify GERD and any other throat problems. I've had this done, easy.
I've had the other one done too,Endoscopy which you need to be lightly sedated for. Not a big deal. The nose one is much less invasive and less risky if you worry about
that.

tela, I'm assuming EGD endoscopy.
