Hi folks,
Just posting an update to my situation since writing it down seems to help a bit.
I'm experiencing sudden extreme anxiety and depression after a miscarriage 2.5 weeks ago. I felt alright the first week after, but the last week has been anxiety non-stop like I’ve never felt before. I’m on the edge of panic all day, and it has become debilitating.
My primary care doctor prescribed buspirone (5mg three times daily), so I’ve been taking that for a few days now. I’ve never taken psych meds before, so I’ve been nervous, but I want to feel better. I know it can take time to work though, so I'm trying to stay hopeful.
I thought today was going to be a good day – I was able to eat 3 small meals, which is more than I’ve been able to eat in a week. I’ve felt anxious, but was mostly keeping it under control, until about 8pm tonight when I had a horrible panic attack. I don’t have panic attacks very often at all, so this was very frustrating.
I’m wondering what other folks do to help with panic attacks/extreme anxiety? Should I request something fast acting like Xanax to take during an attack? Or perhaps busprione isn’t the best for such strong anxiety and an SSRI would be more appropriate? What helps you most?
Thanks for any feedback you can offer. I have an appointment next Wed with a therapist, so hopefully I’ll get more advice at that point too.
