Had anxiety pretty bad last three years. Always used Xanax to deal but it's getting out of hand. Started Lexapro yesterday, praying this will work for me. (5mg).
I have these awful morbid compulsive thoughts lately about
my daughter, someone is going to harm her or my family and kill her etc keeps going through my mind. I love her more than life itself. Why do I have these irrational thoughts that I know are not true?? Anyway to get them out of my mind?

Hi Yankee,
I am so sorry that you are struggling with these uncomfortable and unwanted thoughts.:( They are soley a product of the OCD/anxiety... and have nothing to do with any reality whatsoever. ..but they still have the ability to bother us!
Given time, the Rx you are starting will help...but you should also seek to learn therapy/coping skills to help you manage this.
Check out our Resources at the top of the main forum page here for great self help material. We have OCD specific help, as well as Therapy Worksheet downloads which will help you to diffuse the power of these intrusive thoughts!
Know that we are here to listen and encourage anytime, so keep posting. :)

So sorry Yankee, that is very distressing. If you have some time/energy, read up on cognitive behavioral therapy. It can teach you how to challenge those thoughts and find them less distressing. There are therapists out there that can teach this as well.
Hang in there!

Hi
Like SC said these uncomfortable and unwanted thoughts are solely a product of the OCD & anxiety.
The Lexapro should help but you may need to go up to 10mg.

Still having these thoughts, like when I see my daughter "kill her" or "hurt her" flashes in my mind.
This is absolutely terrifying to me right now. I have never had these prior to my breakdown I had on Sunday. I have no clue where these stem from. I would NEVER harm my daughter.
I find my mind fighting these thoughts and its exhausting.

Have you talked to a therapist yet, Yankee? You might find that helpful.
Whenever you have the thought, remind yourself that this is an intrusive thought. It's like a dream - you don't control it, and it may have an emotional effect on you - but it is not what you want or anything you will act on.
You say you don't know where these thoughts stem from... the answer is they stem from your anxiety, and nothing more. You don't need to spend energy trying to figure out these thoughts, even though they're distressing.
Check out the tips here:

Hugs to you Yankee. I know it is not easy.

Yankee,
Does this coincide with starting your medication? If so, I think you need to consult with your doctor regarding how to proceed.
Remeber, these thoughts do not in any way reflect your true self/feelings/ desires...
...but there is no reason for you to be miserable, and my be adjustments can be made, so you get relief!

Hi Yankee
Sorry to hear you are still having these thoughts I would speak with your doctor regarding your medication as IMO there are better options for OCD such as Prozac or Clomipramine.
I have bad OCD and currently take Prozac 60mg and have found it to be really effective at treating my OCD but we are all different when it comes to meds so chat things through with your GP.
