Hi KB and welcome.
I am sorry to hear of your anxiety and symptom that is currently giving you trouble. I know how scary and confusing this feels.
Just to be sure, have you been checked out by your doctor regarding this particular issue, as to rule out any underlying physical cause?
Hypnic jerks are certainly more common...those happening during the initial phase of sleep...
...but that is not to say that what you describe could not be attributed to anxiety...it is just less common.
So, if you have been cleared of any neurological issue/vitamin deficiency...then you can start to treat this from an anxiety management angle.
What if anything are you doing currently for help? Medication, therapy...self help? If you've not made a treatment plan with your doctor yet...I strongly urge you to do so!
For now, checking out our Resources here at the top of the main page will be a great first step! We have great self help material there that, when practiced daily, will make a big difference in how you feel. Start with the 'Stress Relieving Exercises' link...specifically the 'Progressive Muscle Relaxation' which should help.
Post here with us anytime if you find it helpful. :) We care, understand and support is key!
