as they say, opinions are like a-holes and everybody's got one. there's a lot of information out there and some of it is right, some of it is straight wrong, but most of it is slanted towards the way the person taking it in wants to interpret it.
i say this as a stranger on the internet with full understanding of the irony of what i'm about to advise:
don't listen to strangers on the internet about your health.
yes, it's good to come and get advice and reassurance and to not feel so alone. but when someone who doesn't even know you, or your doctor, or your full situation, tells you not to do something your doctor prescribed for you, as you already determined that person is not really on your side. you can't diagnose someone from a distance -- even if you have the information available to you, even if you've been a doctor for decades, it's unethical and nigh impossible.
i understand your fears about psych meds. i really do. we all have them, i think, in one form or another -- especially where health anxiety is concerned. the warnings and the horror stories play so loudly and they're so hard to ignore. and once they get in, they just rattle around your head like an angry little marble.
the demand to go rx free, to face your challenges without help, that's an ableist (and often dismissive) point of view. you're absolutely right, it's not a choice for everyone. but even when it is a choice, it's still a valid one for your life if that's what feels right to you. you, and to a lesser extent your doctor, are the only one who can make the right call for you.
tell that person off if you want to, or don't. either way, you're doing great. keep up the good work.
