After being feeling so bad since November of last year in January I started lexapro. I am not even gonna go into details into the side effects I had at the beginning, but I felt worse before feeling better. I started at a small dose 2.5 all the way to 10. I did it slowly, so when I had finished two bottles of 30 pills of 10 mg I started feeling better. Some days I felt something g was coming like a panic attack, but eventually I got better to the point where I don't carry my xanax that I took 5 pills of 25 mg daily at one time. I barely slept, but today I don't take any more xanax to sleep and I sleep ok. I would say that many times I felt like lexapro was not gonna work, but it did. I thank God. The only thing is that I feel hungry one thing that I wasn't before because of the anxiety. Don't give up too quickly on medicines. Bless all of you and I hope this can help someone who is struggling right now because I came to this site many times when I felt so low.

Thanks for the update I am pleased the Lexapro has worked well for you it's one of the better antidepressants imo.

Glad it has started to work for you and you're feeling some relief! The side effects aren't fun at first but do fade and I think for most people they feel a lot better as the medicine settles in.

I had similar experience with lexapro I had to start on a low dose and had those horrible side effects. I've been thinking about possibly trying it again if my new meds don't work. Thank you for the hope and glad you are doing better!

Hello,
I just started on 5 mg of lexapro yesterday to help with my horrible anxiety. However I was not able to sleep and had to take .5mg of xanax already to help with the anxiety and headaches. I really want to stick it out as I have a 2 year old and I really want to get better for him but the side effects are so harsh. How long did it take for them to settle down?

Hello RM and welcome!

I am sorry to hear that you are experiencing a rough spot currently...

...however, it is important to remember that the Rx start up effects are temporary...and will eventually phase out (within 2 or so weeks usually) and leave you with a med that performs well for you once therapeutic levels are reached!

This is new for me and I generally hate medication so I have been very sad about having to start. They tried buspirone about 3 weeks ago and it was horrible and did not help after the two weeks so I really am praying this one will work better.

It really is a rough period for me so that you for the support smile
