I was diagnosed with anxiety when I was 10. It has been a part of my life for over 20 years. I am currently not on medication and have been able to handle the anxiety until here recently. I am having anxiety for no reason. Its keeping me from sleeping well, and starting to affect my day to day life. Today I went to my doctor to get help. The doctor missed the part about my anxiety and only heard poor sleep. He is sending me for a sleep study and not hearing me when I say I have anxiety. Do I stick it out and limp through until he hears me out or I do I start looking for a new provider? I like my doctor and have never had an issue until this, I just don’t know what to do.

Hi c_a and welcome!

I am sorry to hear that half of your challenges were basically swept aside at your appointment. :/

You should probably give your doctor another chance, and make the appointment by specifying that you want to discuss which Rx you will be getting a prescription for. (in other words...what medication, not if)

If your doctor does not want to prescribe for you...then you can ask for a referral to a P-doc at this time.

I agree with scat-ask for a referral to p doc. time is important to waiste on a sleep study. it takes time to find ne w doc-get appointment-and find right med. there is no time to waiste if you re riddled with anxiety.

I agree with SC as well. My medical doctor has told me that she won't prescribe psychiatric meds to me, so I have to go to a psychiatrist for that. Some doctors just don't know enough and are afraid in todays sue happy society to do it. I know my doc is that way because we had a long talk about it and she was honest with me. So, I go to a county psychiatrist and get prescribed meds for psychiatric issues. Now don't get me wrong I'm not saying thats what is happening to you, but it's one explanation.

Follow SC's suggestion and things should get better as they did for me.
