Increasing lexapro dose

Hi everyone,

I'm currently prescribed 10 mg of lexapro but I asked my doctor if it was okay for me to start with 5mg and he said that is fine. I've been on it for a couple months and I'm not looking to increase the dose yet but when I do I'm worried about how I will react. When I first started lexapro I had increased anxiety that led to an urgent care visit because I thought I was having a heart attack. I'm wondering if when I raise up to 10 mg if I will have this same increased anxiety or if I will be fine since I already have it in my system.

As strange as it sounds...upping the dose to 10mg very likely won't cause twice the side effects. In fact it may actually help you. I started with a dose of 2.5mg then tried upping to 5mg. This was a horrible experience. However, when I hit 10mg (lowest therapeutic dose from what I've read), magic happened. My anxiety totally went down and I was able to literally get my life back.

While everyone's experience is different, don't be afraid of upping the dose if your doc thinks it's the right thing to do.

10 is usually a starter dose. no worries. 20 is typically the theraputic dose....in the main. yep since it is in ya system the further 5 will take up fine. i would think the s/e will be less or none at all.
