cymbalta

Does anyone here take cymbalta for anxiety/panic disorder?  The only threads I could find when I searched were from one particular person, who it did not work for.  I was hoping to hear some responses from other people who have tried it for anxiety.  Thanks!

Welcome to HW you will find a great family here. I have heard this med mentioned in the past, but I have no experiance with it. I am sure others will be by to share experiances they may have had.

Thanks all for the replies.  I don't take it for the pain....in fact, it seems like most taking it for anxiety or depression, also have pain symptoms or fibromalygia (sp?)  I don't have any pain symptoms and I don't think I have any depression, or if I do it's from the anxiety.  Here's hoping it works for us all!

missie, I had stopped cymbalta once before after being on it for 7 weeks.  My anxiety was still there, so I thought it just wasn't working for me.  But, I've started it back up at the full 60mg again.  I agree it is a high starting dosage, but it's not so bad.  I mostly have the stomach issues with it and I know those will go away after the first week or so, for me anyway.  I have xanax also to take with it as needed.  Be careful trying to halve the capsule.  I am always leary of trying to mess with capsules vs. splitting a pill.  Good luck and keep me posted!

hi--- not sure but what i did today was open the cap and take out half of the beads and created 30 mg instead of 60 mg which was way too high...i didnt know he put me on 60 mg to begin with until i got home from the phar and looked to see and it was 60 dollars for 3 months supply for me from my insurance this is an expensive drug to be on.

i felt dizzy and also have underlying seziures disorder which they tell me cymbalta can make worse so i had to do this - he says it is okay to do to take out half of beads inside and put back in cap.

 but i take xanax .50mg twice daily but today i could not get outta bed it made me so tired. but i am also very upset b/c of family problems also so i am not happy today extra unhappy.  cymbalta does help with some of hte pain issues though if i can take it with the skin rashes, he tells me ( doc) try to stay on it anywy even though you have the skin rashes b.c that may go away, and i am running out of options here as i tried many different AD and either they work for a little while or stop.

 

 

 Hello, ive took cymbalta before i started taking zoloft, i took it for a month and didnt want to anymore. it made me stay up allnight and my appetite decreased drasticaly. O yeah i was on 50mg a day for a month, til i changed. maybe you should try a diff dose for awhile, then if it seems not to be working well, ask for a differnt anti depressent, also ive noticed cymbalta gave me more side effects then the other ssri's ive taken. Thats just from my  personal experience yours might be differnt, but theres always other options, just try differnt ones if you feel you need so. Levelle

Americandancer I would go to the resources in yellow see if you can find anything in there and I am getting this back up to top hoping someone can help usually Harry posts about many differents meds long time anxiety sufferer and is recovered ...........

My doctor gave cymbalta samples 3 days ago at 30mg. She told me to take one a day. The first day I could feel it, I was like drunk and my eyes seemed to lock in and stay stuck like being hypnotized by fire. I didn't want to move, I didn't want to even chew the food in my mouth. I hated it and told my husband I hated the pill and was not taking it anymore. He encouraged me to try it a week. Well the second day I took it and I could feel it take affect in an hour, it does something to your head that makes you feel like just staring off and not moving away from what you are starring at. It wasn't a fun high, it was annoying to me. By the end of the second day I started to feel happy, it was kind of like I had taken a pain pill and felt like a little heaven came my way. I started to smile and couldn't get the stupid grin off my face, I actually felt happy and I wanted to call people I never wanted to call before. No anxiety at all since I have been on it. I decided it was a little too strong for me so I decided to only take it at night since starring off into space and not wanting to move would be okay at that time. I noticed that when I take it that I feel so spacey for about 4 hours and then I get the feel good from it.

My mom passed away almost two years ago and I still cry over her and miss her so much, however, after starting these pills I don't seem to think on her as much or cry. My horrible stressful and scary dreams are calming down and they are good dreams now. Since I have noticed some improvements I think I will stick it out for a couple more weeks and see if it will get better. I can sleep with no problem, I can even wake up earlier in the morning. So far I think it might be worth it to give this pill more time to level off. I am thinking about trying Lithium orotate along with it. I will call my doctor first.

I think if it can keep my mind off of my mom and keep my anxiety down I think this pill just might be the one for me.

I am glad that you are starting to get some relief from your Rx. Great job on sticking it out through the first awful day! I hope that you continue to get benefit from this, with less of the initial side effects.

I am so sorry to hear about your mom.:( I hope that you continue to heal, even as you are mourning her loss. It is tremedously hard to lose a parent, I know.

Thank you S. CAT, I wished I would of gotten on something years ago. I had two bad experinces with Paxil and Effexor and I just gave up. If it hadn't been for my husband and sister telling me to go to the doctor I probably would of went another 5 years with depression and horrible anxiety. I will definately stick it out a couple of weeks.

I have had depression most of my life.Have tried different antidepressants but the only one that has helped long term is Zoloft.But it causes me to overheat and also weight gain.

Several yrs ago was diagnosed with fibromyalgia.Zoloft doesn't help the pain so I asked my Dr. to let me try Cymbalta.Been on it about a week.No help so far for the pain but I have been having bad night sweats and more dreams.Not bad dreams just more.Am still overheating and feel a little more agitated then I did on the Zoloft.

I don't know if I should get off of cymbalta or stick it out.I am afraid of withdrawal.I was on effexor for awhile and it was hard to get off of.Zoloft is not addictive and when I quit I had no problems.

It seems like Cymbalta is much more toxic.Was wondering if anyone else taking cymbalta is having night sweats.
