FRUSTRATED with my doctor, what do I do????

Okay, I'm REALLY getting stressed everytime I need more samples of Lexapro.  I have no health insurance and it would cost me $100 a month to get a prescription.  (now I'm starting to think that price is worth it so I'm not in effing tears everytime I have to go thru this process of getting more samples)

My doctor told me I could call her up at the clinic whenever I needed more samples.

Well whenever I call they transfer me to her stupid nurse who NEVER calls me back and NEVER answers her phone.

Last time I was out of Lexapro for a WEEK and had left two voicemails and kept calling everyday and she NEVER returned my phone calls.  I called her on a Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday, and I had to take my sister's Lexapro for a week just to get by.  The nurse NEVER returned my phone calls.

I had to call the clinic the last time and just start freaking out and finally they transferred me to nurse's triage line and they filled my samples.

Now I'm out of Lexapro AGAIN and I just called the clinic three times and they won't transfer me to the nurse's triage line and I KNOW this nurse isn't going to call me back and I only have two days worth of Lexapro left.  I left the nurse a voicemail but now it's Friday and I know she won't bother calling me back.

What should I do?

I've been bawling for like an hour cuz I'm so angry and stressed out.  UGH.

Have you been to a mental health or health clinic? I know when I did not have insurance they would provide some drugs at a reduced fee or for free. They might not have Lexapro but something similar. I went to a behavorial health part of a local hospital. I know how frustrating this can be. Hang in there.

I would call a local hospital and ask them. Or you could look in the phone book for health clinics. Or try county services in the phone book, ours are listed on blue pages for all local goverment listings.

  Sorry to hear about that Twiggy, you may try calling some of the chuch's around you, some of the good folks there my help you out to get your meds and maybe some other help.

ask around, phone around, ask if the local hospital has a psych ward, phone local pharmacists re any drug schemes for poor people

also ask the cost of generic prozac which is very similar to lexapro and probably will work as well

 go and see the doc and complain about the nurses lack of help, take a list of what you want to say in case your mind goes blank thru anxiety, dont write as the nurse will probably see that the doc never gets your letter

some nurses are just plain nasty yeah not all nurses are nice, sadly eyes

I finally had my mom call the doctor and SHE had to leave a voicemail too, but she said on the voicemail that I get "mentally unstable" without the Lexapro. Which is true.

So then they called HER back within the hour but me? NO!! I Have to wait for days!!!

What is with this stupid clinic?

I got my free samples, but they will only last me 12 days. (I'm askin Santa for a stocking FULL of Lexapro ahahaha.. just kidding)

I don't get my nurse and why she would be so dismissive about frantic voicemails and NOT EVEN call me back.

Well, I think I'm going to try going to my sister's doctor at another clinic. My sister has panic disorder too.

Only problem is is that she has health insurance and I don't. So I don't know how much this is going to cost me to see another doctor. :(

I'm trying to apply for Minnesota Care but I think I make too much money. (the cut off line for income is ridiculous)


Harry- I'd love to go see my doc but then that'd cost me another $175 just to complain. I can't stand my doc's nurse.


I guess I'll have to find a new doc within the next week.

I feel bad for you having to always have to go throught that rotten nurse! They only gave you 12 days worth. Well that would stress anyone out knowing they have to go back and try to get more in just 12 days! I really dont know what advice I could give you but I do hope things get sorted out for you and you can get your meds. Just knowing you can get your meds without that stressfull nurse would take alot of stress off of you. I hope something works out for you.

I saved 3 our 4 boxes of sample i was initially give twiggy, before my zoloft. I never took them.

Although you are trying to be a great person and supportive person helping Twiggy out this is not allowed .......Sharing and sending others  meds via HW is against Forum rules

Please do understand I know you are trying to be helpful but I had to edit ........Lyn

Shawn!!! OMG thanks so much...

Twiggygal the same rule applies here hun sorry I know Shawn is trying to be helpful but.....

You need to get meds from your own doctor and if he /she is not being the doc they should be and looking after YOU properly I would really find another,that will make sure you do not go w/o your meds Harry and others have good suggestions

Please do see another doc that has your interests at heart and will answer calls making sure you have meds it is not good to bounce between being on them and then not ya know .......I wish you all the best.I ma very emapthetic to your plight hun BUT rules have to be followed and sharing meds is a no no even if it would help you monetarily

I think finding a good doc would be better in the long run and comp;aining to your doc about the tx you get when you call

Yes i am being helpful, and someone did this for me when i was in between and as long as it is

the same mg. i don't see a problem with it.  When you get these twiggy, let me know.  If you

choose not to take them, that is up to you.  That is alot of money to throw away.

I didn't appreciate the bad rap i got for this.  It's xmas time, we are suppose to be helpful.

Well, this is another reason we need to nationalize healthcare in this country or go to a single-payer system. The wealthiest country in the world can't take care of their own people and it's ridiculous.

Anyway, is your doctor in a small office where there's only one nurse? It looks like there ought to be more than one person you could talk to. I've always had better luck doing things like this face to face, so I'd like to recommend that you just go up there. Don't make an appointment for an exam or anything that will cost you money; just explain to the people at the desk that you're a patient and would like five minutes of the doctor's time. If he's a decent human being he'll give that to you, and you can tell him that you've been having trouble obtaining samples from his office. If you can't go to the doctor and wait around like that, you can call and ask that HE call you back. When they ask you the reason for your call, just tell them you have an important question about your medication. I've never had a doctor that wouldn't call me back, but admittedly it's pretty rare that I call them.

If he's a good doctor you can cut through the bureaucracy and get this thing straightened out. Good luck to you.

I hate to interject here, but the only impression that I got was that you were being kind and helpful and it's just against the rules to trade meds on the site. Probably a liability thing....it certainly didn't seem personal.

Isn't awful we can't help each other....but god bless to think of it...Drug companies make me V sad that they could help us soooo much...they just want the money.  Sad and despondent....best of luck to all......

debaser-.. actually the clinic is a larger clinic and there are several nurses to talk to, but the clinic's protocol is that "you can only speak to your doctor's nurse" who happens to be evil. :(

I'm now on the hunt for a doctor. I found a free clinic but it's far far away. :( Like forty minutes away.



Sorry for breaking the rules on HW... I didn't know about those rules... *shrugs*... I'm just glad there's caring people on here like yorkielover. Thanks yorkie :)



Sometimes I think this country is ridiculous.. .all the money spent on the war and I can't even afford the meds I need to stay sane. Grr.



Lyn- thanks for caring.. trying to find another doc... I'm switching clinics shortly.. and sending in my application for health insurance with Minnesotacare... but I know they are going to turn me down. :(

I'm living on Disability, so my medical costs have to be covered by my parents most of the time.  I even have a supplimental drug coverage plan that they pay for every month.  Even just counting deductables and the monthly premium, it's still over $400 a month.  Right now I am trying to find a new program, because the program I was using is going to be a lot more expensive this year.

You were not getting a bad rap I DID say I knew you were trying to be helpful BUT it is against the rules and regs of HW .
I am not trying to be a heavy here I am only doing what I VOLUNTEERED to do .......
I realize Twiggygal is in need and I would do NOTHING to hurt her ever .......
All I did was edit the post and explain why .......

I am with lyn. I also believe it is technically illegal atleast in the states to share/send or sell your meds. Not to mention could be dangerous. When your meds do not come from doc or pharmacy they can be tampered with at times. This issue has come up on other forums through HW. The way the rules are described to us mods is this is not allowed that is the only reason Lyn came down on it. We all do care about you all and want nothing but the best for yous...with that said...certain rules are more or less a zero tolerance. Med sharing is definately against our rules. I also agree if you have not yet read the rules please do so. If you need clarification contact a mod we will help you out. Hope you all can understand.
