psycogenic seziures...please help

Monday about 3 min after they pushed a dye for a kidney test, i started having seziures. They continued for about 7 days. I was intubated for 3 days, icu, and then neuro. floor. they now say that they are not epileptic but psycogenic, and that something in my subconscience is causing me to have sezuires. I am now home and I feel like I'm being treated like I did something wrong. I have to have 24/7 care, like being babysittwed, and my parents are now in the process of "helping me get things undercontroll". Controlling my life I feel like. I'm 21.

They have now taken and hidden all my meds, etc etc.

I haven't had a seziure in a couple days.

Does anyone know about all this stuff??

I'm sorry to hear you're going through this and my heart goes out to you.

As for being "babysat" I would tell them how you feel and ask them to back off a bit - explain that you will probably get things under control more easily in a normal environment. It's hard having 'big brother' watching you 24/7.

Do you suffer from depression , or do they think you will - if not I don't know why they hid your meds I'm afraid.

And last but certainly not least - it is NOT your fault that this is happening , you have done NOTHING wrong.

I imagine haveing your parents watching over everything you do is feels like a prison and with you being 21 I bet you feel like you have had a fun adjudsting to to being an adult and having freedom and now they are trying to take that away from you. Tell them how you feel but try to do it in a calm way. Cause I am sure they still think of you as thier tiny little baby and they would go to the moon to help you, So they might be going over board a bit. Let them know you needs and how you are feeling and I you just might be able to work something out so they can still keep you safe and health and let you have your space too. Good luck and remember they love you!

Sorry to hear that you are going through all of this. It sounds awful but I'm sure that you will be OKAY. Hang in there and take one day at a time.

I have a suggestion for you b/c it seems like you have a lot of unanswered questions and I think it is important that you have the 411 on all of this.
Take a pad of paper and draw a line down the middle. On the top of one column is "Questions for Mom and Dad." On the top of the 2nd column is "Questions for my doctor(s)" Questions for Mom and Dad like WHY are you not allowing me to take my meds? Like someone posted above, is this the doctors order? If they can't explain it to you then put it on the "doctors" list. Why do you feel the need to watch me 24/7? Their must be a reason for this. Now, for the doctors list. How can these seizures be psychological when I was having them when I was unconscious? How are we going to manage my migraines from this point forward?

I believe that you are missing some vital information concerning your health and it is causing frustration and anxiety. You are fortunate to have Mom and Dad. Did you become dependent on the meds for migraine? Did you know that a lot of pain meds can cause stomache problems?

I'm sure that your parents want the best for you. Give your doctor a chance to work with you but remember that you are the patient and you have a right to ask questions. Knowledge can reduce your anxiety. Let us know how you are doing. I hope you feel better soon.
