Celaxa and Social Anxiety??

Normally I've been on benzodiazapenes for my social situation that cause stress. Recently my doctor said that's not the way to cure it and to try Celexa. Well, I'm on day 8 and the drug itself is making me anxious, confused a bit, agitated, but he tells me to try it out a little longer. Hmmm, I read the post above that talks about Lexepro and it seems like a dream. Any advice? Thanks

celexa is a prozac type med and will help a lot if it works for you, this can take up to 6 weeks and at first it often makes your anxiety worse, good idea to continue with benzos for now which doc should have suggested, both go well together

lexapro is basicly the same as celexa, just a more modern and expensive version

also helps to learn new ways of relaxing and coping with the anxuety, called CBT

I've been taking Celexa now for about 3 weeks. For the first 2 weeks I had increased anxiety, agitation, shaking, etc. Now on week 3, I only have mild anxiety and agitation. My doctor said that most people experience these symptoms for the first month or less, and that it takes about 4-8 weeks to get into your system completly. The first week for me was the worse, but my symptoms are slowly improving. SSRI's do take a while to work, and if I were you I'd continue on the Celexa for awhile longer. Nothing will really improve drastically in only a week. Celexa is really known as a good clean drug, and one of the best to use.

I should have also mentioned that I was on Ativan for the first week as well. It did help with some of the side effects.
