  I called my doc yesterday to get a refill on my valium because he is going to be out of the office for like the next couple of weeks - this is my gp.  when i went and picked up my prescription i noticed that he changed it from 10mg of valium to 1mg of xanax. can anyone think of a reason why he may have done this? also why such a change in mg. is xanax that much stronger or what?

Yes Valium at 10 mg is normal and 1mg of xanax is normal.. they are different types of meds and they work in different ways..

Xanax is actually prescribed more for A/P than Valium... Maybe he thought this would be better for you.. However it doesnt make any sense that he would not discuss the change with you before he just did it..

Maybe he made a mistake when writing the script..

Either way the Xanax will help for Anxiety

I'd call the office and make sure he intended to change it.

yeah give him a call and make sure that the change is right, also make sure it wont affect any of the other meds you are one.
I only take .5mg xanax and thats only for when I really need it and it has always done the job!

I agree with the others here call your dr and make sure he changed your meds or if it is a mix up somewhere.

thanks guys. i just wasn't sure if changing like that was normal or what was going on. i'll let you all know what happens

Many docs dont like the valium but I think your best bet is to call as all have posted and if he did change w/o letting you know or conferring with you I would certainly want to talk to him
