xanax and pregnancy

hi, has anyone taken xanax while pregnant? i've heard that you cannot! i can't imagine not taking this everyday. today i tried to not take it but by 12 noon, my heart was doing my panic thing and my mind was racing about things that i am worried about. when i take xanax it makes me feel normal. i am not pregnant yet but am hoping too and we are "trying". if i can't take it while pg - can anyone recommend an anti anxiety drug safe to take while pg?

Xanax is considered unsafe in pregnancy and can lead to severe birth defects or potential fetal death (as my doctor explaine to me). Before you get pregnant, I'd STRONGLY encourage you to seek out a consultation with a doctor who specializes in high risk pregnancy and is willing to work with your psychiatrist to come up with alternative medicines that are both safe for the baby and will meet your needs. Please don't get pregnant on Xanax. The risks of having severe problems are low, but they are very real. Try to imagine how you would feel if something happened to your baby because of what you did. Also, if you've been taking Xanax regularly and want or plan to get off of it, please doctor to your octor. Stopping Xanax cold turkey can make you feel terrible and even cause seizures. Good luck! I hope the docs can find a way to help you.
