has anyone experienced this? I've got it in my head that it means I have ALS (the kind that starts with your throat). My husband says that it happens to him sometimes, but I'm sure he's just saying that to make me feel better. Anybody have words of comfort for me?

I do that when I'm awake typically.... not usually when I'm asleep...
maybe you should talk to your doc about
this?
I'm sure others will be more helpful here.... as I do not experience this at night...
I tend to suffer from extremely dry throat and wake up in the middle of the night and drink tons of water...

this is weird.i just had this happen to me the other night... mind you i have GERD and i snore so my throat dries easily with the snoring..plus it is drier in the winter..Do you sleep with a fan ? It may have just dried your throat out.. My throat is sore today and i feel like theres a lump in it but i could be coming down sick too.. who knows... Try not to think about
ALS i researched that,,, typical onset is age 40-70 and affects somethin like 1 in every 200,000 or something like that.. hope this helps!

Thanks for all the replies. I do have GERD, and am not taking my meds at this time. I have choked before on "stuff" coming up, but this seemed to be more a saliva thing. No problem last night, though.
