I saw my anxiety and phobia specialist today

He said my fear of ----is only that a fear and i will not do anything to harm myself. That made me feel better now i just have to make myself quit having that thought. I just wanted to tell everyone thank you for the help you have gave me. Do you all think that the doctor would really know what he is talking about? he is really good and has been doing this for many years i asked him if he would know and he said yes. anyway thank you for your help. be well everyone and god bless you all . I think it's probably safe to trust your doctor (I know it's still easy to doubt though!!).  He is a specialist and he obviously thinks you are quite sane and safe (which you are).  Try and hold onto the positive things he has said and trust in yourself.  :-)

Sounds like your doc knows what he is talking about so I would be happy about that .....I am glad you did go finally and got some help .....

unwanted thoughts such as a fear you will harm yourself or others are common for anxiety sufferers, and usually classed as OCD, details of this anxiety related condition on the net

theres an old medical joke about a doctor with a waiting room full of patients who fear they will kill their children

the book 'brainlock' is a good self help book for unwanted thoughts

i was going to mention the same thing harry!  i purchased this book, however, i haven't finished it yet.  i catch myself only reading it when my ocd is at its peak.  reading the book is very relieving though, and whenever my ocd tries to take over with all those unwanted intrusive thoughts, i know i will be re reading this book over and over!

I highly recommend it!

I have those thoughts too, I know in the back of my mind that they aren't realistic but sometimes I'm like "what if i got so bad that I did that!" and its scary.

In med school when I did my psych. stuff they told me this and hopefully it will help you all. If you have a thought that you feel is a "bad" thought and makes you worry about it or feel guilty for thinking it you will not do it. It is when you think about it and like to think about it because it makes you feel good is when you should really get help. Oh and BTW 99 percent of ppl that think thoughts like this and say OMG I need help I'm crazy are the sanest (sp) least likley people to ever do something like this. The people who think the thought is perfectly acceptable are the ones that need to be careful. Also the more you let the thought bother you the more you will think it. When it comes just tell yourself its a thought it means nothing (easier said then done I know.) Hope that helps some.
