XANAX DURING PREGNANCY????

I am now 15 weeks pregnant and have been taking 0.25 xanax 3 times a day.  My ob knows and did not really say anything about it.  I also took it when i was pg with my son and he is fine but i stopped taking it after 16 wks.  My concern is that there is alot more stress in my life this time around and I don't think that it would be good idea to stop so I have tried cutting down without much success.  I also don't think it a good idea to just start taking a new medication either.. Did i mention that I had two miscarriages in the past which is only adding fuel to the fire of my concern...Any one with any experience it would be greatly appreciated  I am a nervous wreck as i don't know that such a small dose won't hurt the baby...I know my neighbor took alot of anxiety meds during her pg and everything is fine with her kids...HELP!!!!!!!!!!!!!

When I had or was preggars with Cait I was told that it is now the last trimester that you need to worry about with meds I was on Opiates for pain........I went down on them naturally and I have not had a problem with her health at all

The reason the say last tri is because this is when brain is fully developing from my understanding...

Definitely nothing wrong with cait ...highly intelligent, and is Valedictorian this yr for school

Straight A student and type A personality

Ask your doc about this and see what he / she says

I know I was fine too I took my diazepam all thru pregnancy.......

Thank you for the information it is helpful. I know that with my son after my 16th week the anxiety let up and i felt great about two days after delivery it hit like a freight train thoug and i dread that happening again but hopefully since i know it happened i will have my meds to help me again. i do however want to breastfeed for at least three days and i don't think that will be safe. I am just not sure what to do...but thanks for your help..

Congratulations and what an exciting time for you.
I know there is controversy re the use of xanax during pregnancy but I would have to advise that you talk to your physician.
Lyn is right re the last trimester.
I am sorry that the anxiety is bothering you right now and of course your concerned re the meds, that is normal to be concerned.

The breastfeeding part I believe would cause me concern as it is you I really believe you need to talk this over totally with your doc ........
I breastfed Cait but only for 3 weeks
Never an ear infection or cold when young so I know that it was beneficial to her
My boys were not breastfed and always had ear infections ........tubes put in the ears all of it

many pregnant women take these valium type meds during pregnancy, they are far milder than the antidepressants also taken during pregnancy a lot

I prefer benzos to be taken only as needed and not your way, but its probably become a comforting ritual for you......

theres the chance that just being pregnant will stop all your anxiety

I was told that Xanax during the 1st trimester is a definite no no...it can cause cleft lip/palatte.  I however took xanax my 2nd and 3rd trimester and my babies were fine!  We all have to weigh the benefits over the negatives...and everyone is different.  As long as your Dr. knows, and didn't seem too concerned, I would stick with what you are doing...otherwise, your Dr. would have told you to stop.  Again, this is my opinion and you have to do what is best for you!  Good luck and congrats on the pregnancy!

don't stress man! (easy for me to say... i was freaking out myself last few weeks..haha).. but seriously, you're gonna be fine.. and your baby is gonna be beautiful.
.25 is a pretty small dose i'd think.
i doubt your doc would even have much to say about that (and we all know how most of them tend to err on the side of extreme caution)

check out the medscape website if you're into reading up on actual medical reports rather than reading the scary 'dont do this' 'dont do that' websites.

ps- i'm 12 weeks pregnant and i'm taking lexapro.. so well done to us!

Congrats to you on your pregnancy...hope all is well with you...thanks to everyone for your input it is greatly appreciated. Just had an ultrasound on monday and so far all is well... Looking forward to finding out what I am having.. I am now 16 weeks and 3 days. Anxiety is still at a heightened level...Afraid of having another c-section and all that..afraid of dying during surgery or hemmoraging post op...the usual ways that I like to freak myself out. add to that the fear of going crazy due to the added responsibility of another child and not being strong enough to handle it is very scary..
