Hello,

Well this will be my first posting to this site...

I have been going through some serious anxiety and panic.. I keep getting dizzy and faint spells.. Is this normal due to anxiety and panic?

I have gone to a Dr. and he has told me to take .5mg of klonopin as a needed bases...It seems to help but I do not want to be Dependant on the drug.

Any suggestions...

Feeling dizzy/faint could be lots of things, but it sounds like you're under the care of a doctor so that's a great start. Suggestion: do exactly what your doctor says (take the klonnies as needed) and re-evaluate in a month or so. I bet that appointment's already been made. Don't worry about dependency. I'm dependent on Klonopin, but you know what? I don't care. It's better than having panic all the time, right? It's not like heroin or anything.

Well you do have a point.. it is better than having panic all the time.. However, my level of panic is not so severe..
For example, I get dizzy if im in a crowded place.. or school.. or like a club.. I feel like I want to faint.. I have also looked into the possibility of
Vertigo..

I think Im to young to starting taking this med..

How old are you?

31. Old enough to know that the doctors should be making the medical decisions. If you don't like his diagnosis or treatment, I'd suggest a second opinion. If you get dizzy in crowded places I would suspect anxiety rather than vertigo...but I don't really know anything.

There's a whole bunch of drugs your doctor could've prescribed, but he chose Klonopin. Make an appointment and discuss with him why he chose it and also talk to him about your age. Always ask a lot of questions regarding your diagnoses and prescriptions. Try not to go home with doubts.

Welcome to the Anxiety/Panic Forum, this is Kitt.
You describe what, IMO, sounds like anxiety and perhaps you start to hyperventilate and then feel like fainting??? If you only have this happen in crowds and when your home alone, then I would suspect it is a problem you have no matter where you are.
I would suggest following your physician's directions and your not going to become addicted in a couple of weeks. Your other option is, as Lyn pointed out, go back to your physician and discuss the meds and different meds or look at therapy of some sort.
You are truly among a caring group of people that understand this disorder very well.
